Oh! New Sun! Of South Sudan!
Do not set
By Dr. Achier Deng Akol Ayay

I see your emergence

You the New Sun

Of Independence

Of South Sudan

We’ve waited so long

Continue to rise

Do not set

With tearful eyes

Of a war orphan;

With blood of martyrs

For liberation

With drumbeats

And heartbeats

I welcome you

Do not set

Not long ago

Slavery grows

Bad suns glow

And misery flows

Let them go

For goodness sake

They hurt me

Do not set

As for you

My Sweetheart

Continue to shine

In my heart

And my mind

I love you

Do not set

With your mystical light

Protect our fragile boundary

And stop anymore fight

To safeguard our country

With its sovereign right

Do not set

Behold our brave army

And powerful women

See the youth entity

And mighty men

Ready to deliver

As Salva Kiir Mayardit

Raises our flag to-day

For our Promised Land

Do not set

For darkness

May come back

And badness

May slide back

To bring sadness

God forbid

Do not set

With future leaders kicking

In mothers’ wombs

Heroic martyrs smiling

In heaven’s rooms

And I ecstatically dying

In freedom blooms

Oh! The New Sun!

Of South Sudan!

Do not set!

Oh! New Sun! Of South Sudan! Do not set!.pdf
