New update on the situation in the Blue Nile State in south east Sudan.

On Thursday November 3, 2011 the Sudan Government army   spokes man announced the capturing of the city of Kurmuk by the Government Of Sudan (GOS) forces, which is a combination of Sudan professional Army, Mujahdeen and the Janjaweed who brought from Western Sudan. Before entering Kurmuk the GOS forces used aerial bombardment, heavy artillery and helicopter gunships targeting the city of Kurmuk and the surrounding areas destroying water storage tanks, churches, schools and civilians’ homes leaving tens of thousands of indigenous people dead, injured and many more fled to the Ethiopian border.
The capture of Kurmuk City was declared as an ethnic and religious victory marked by the Eid Prayer led by the President Omar Albasher himself, his minister of defense, security general manager and the assigned Blue Nile Governor. In a short speech after the Prayer directed to the nation the President of Sudan stated that he delivered his promises to the nation of capturing the city, killing and cleaning the area from non Arab, non believers and blessing it by praying on the Eid day there.
The capture of Kurmuk came at great price paid by indigenous people of Blue Nile. Tens of thousands lost their lives or injured without care or any humanitarian aid hiding in creaks and woods and many more fled to the Ethiopian border. All villages and towns between Damazin city and Kurmuk to the Ethiopian border were completely looted, burned and destroyed by the invading forces.
Back in Marsh of this year after the session of South Sudan president Basher stated in one of his major speeches in Gadarif city that there is no room for any talk about diversity after the South broke away and he declared a pure Arab Islamic State. It seems that after this campaign and the campaign in South Kurdufan President Basher is following his words to eradicate and cleanse the indigenous people in Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains of South Kurdufan.
The capture of Kurmuk city is not the end of the conflict and the humanitarian crises will continue and get worse by the day.
We call for the US Government, US Congress, UN and the International community to step up and take responsibility to:-
1/ Secure humanitarian supplies to hundreds of thousands of displaced people by allowing a non-governmental organizations to deliver food, water, and medicine and stop the government of Sudan from using food and water as a weapon.
2/ Build secure temporary camps for the refugees and Stop the Government Of Sudan from forcing civilians to go back to a war zone to be used as human shields.
3/ Set up an international investigation committee to investigate human rights violations including war crimes and ethnic cleansing.
