H.E Dr. Kiir Mayaardit Arrives in Washington D.C, Monday 12th December 2011 afternoon, for the International Engagement Conference on South Sudan.

WASHINGTON, 13 December 2011 – The President of the Republic H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit arrived in Washington D.C. on Monday 12th December 2011 afternoon. He is accompanied by a good number of national ministers and deputy ministers who are now present in Washington D.C. for the International Engagement Conference for South Sudan.

Among the ministers are Hon. Kosti Manibe minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin minister for Information and Broadcasting, Hon. Emmanuel LoWilla minister in the Office of the President, Hon. Stephen Dhieu minister for Petroleum, Hon Garang Diing minister for Commerce, Industry and Investment, Hon. Agnes Lasuba minister for Gender Child and Social Welfare, Hon. Gier Chuang Aluong minister for Roads and Bridges, and the minister for General Education Hon. Joseph Okelo, among others.

H.E Kiir is expected to address the opening session of the Conference on Wednesday December 14th, 2011 at Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington D.C. Besides that, the USA Secretary of State Hilary Clinton will articulate to the conference the United States Government’s commitment to the success of South Sudan in meeting its development challenges.
The two-day International Engagement Conference for South Sudan will digest the strategic development priorities of the new state government and will highlight opportunities for engagement with private and public sector investors, that is, in concentration on the following:

  1. Development vision of the Republic of South Sudan
  2. Accountability, Transparency and Governance
  3. Integrated social service delivery
  4. Management of Oil Revenue
  5. Human Capital Development and capacity building
  6. International coordination
  7. Key factors for attracting investors to South Sudan:
    1. Oil and Renewable Resources
    2. Information and communication Technology (ICT)
    3. Agriculture
  8. Specific investment policy
    1. Transport infrastructure (Airports, roads and Bridges)
    2. Clean Water and sanitation
    3. Capacity building services.

H.E Kiir in Nairobi on his way to Washington DC

NAIROBI, 11 December 2011 – The President of the Republic H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit and the accompanying delegation arrived in Nairobi today afternoon on his way to Washington DC to address a two-day international engagement conference on South Sudan scheduled for 14th – 15th December 2011.

The Conference will be hosted by the United States of America and is aimed to honour the new state and open a dialogue with the Government of South Sudan on development and investment. The conference will outline the strategic development priorities of the government and will highlight opportunities for engagement with private and public sector investors.

The Conference will draw participants from the USA, UK, EU, AU, World Bank, and International Finance Corporation among others.
