Pagan Amum: South Sudan Oil Transit to Resume, Lamu Project will continue
2 min readThe South Sudan Chief Negotiator to Addis Ababa talks and Secretary General of the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) Mr. Pagan Amum last week in a press conference held at the SPLM Southern Sector have disclosed that they reached two agreements with Sudan Government. “We have agreed on border demarcation and rights of residence for the citizens of the two states but the oil negotiation were touched” Amum continued.
He said that even when South Sudan resume oil transit through Sudan port, still the project of building new pipeline through the port of the Kenya and Djibouti will continue.
To solve the issue of the oil transit, he said that South Sudan has signed another memorandum of understanding with the Government of Ethiopia to connect South Sudan to Djibouti. And also the Government of South Sudan has signed another Memorandum with Kenya to establish oil pipeline in Lamu port. He said that the pipeline will be in place after six months.
He said that the refinery will be constructed as soon as possible, but he did not mention the real company of the company. He said that Kenya has offered port Lamu free to the South Sudan. And he further said that Government of the Ethiopia has responded by constructing a Tarmac road to the border of the South Sudan. He reiterated the commitment of the Government of South Sudan to link a road to Ethiopia to connect South Sudan to the cost of the Indian Ocean.
Amum said that all project signed with Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya will continues even when South Sudan resume oil transit via Sudan. He said that Sudan will connect itself to all ports in Africa. He said that Sudan will connect to Atlantic Ocean through Congo.
