Is the Era of Female Presidency Finally Here in Africa?

This is unexpected move from President Museveni: backing his own bedmate for the highest office in the land. Like many of his own fellow this-country-will-be-damned-if-I-am-not-in-charge Presidents, many were expecting him to anoint one of his child, invariably a son–especially the one heading the elite special forces, to take over or at least one of his trusted buddies within the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

On the positive side, it is apparent the era of female presidency is finally beckoning across Africa, from Liberia to Malawi and hopefully to Uganda if the current opinion poll is not just a Museveni fine-tuned tool to hoodwink the Ugandan public into believing in the inestimable popularity of the First Lady.

Like Putin and Medvedev of Russia, President Museveni and his wife,  Janet Museveni, would exchange places, with Museveni becoming the First Man, right? It would be an interesting scenario. I wonder what political position he/she would carve out for himself/him. Museveni would be damn better off paying a visit to Putin to learn the 101 of such arrangement: he won’t be disappointed.

woe unto the Ugandans! Your national fate has become a private affair of the First Family bedtime’s deliberation!!
