PRESS STATEMENT: For Immediate Release: January 4, 2013

SSHURSA welcomes arrests of the suspects of the assassination of Isaiah Abraham urges government to continue genuine investigations and commemorates a month after his assassination

The South Sudan Human Rights Society for Advocacy (SSHURSA) greatly welcomes the arrests of the alleged suspects of the murder of Isaiah Abraham who was assassinated on December 5, 2012 in his house in Gudele Block 4, Juba, South Sudan. The announcement by the government of South Sudan on January 3, 2012, that it has arrested suspects of the murder is great news to SSHURSA and the public at large. SSHURSA sincerely welcomes the arrests and hails the government of South Sudan on its efforts to arrest the suspects. It is only way out on this particular case of Isaiah Abraham and there are very limited options before the government as who killed him! SSHURSA therefore, urges the government to continue with more impartial and thorough investigations so that true suspects are really identified and real trial of the accused persons starts immediately.  The announcement must not be a matter of quenching public cry over the issue but must be honourably genuine and a starting point of justice done to the family of the late.

SSHURSA today also remembers one month after the darkest day of South Sudan when late Isaiah Abraham was assassinated.  Its leadership renews its resolve today to fight on and collaborates boldly with the like-minded institutions and individuals until justice is done for the family of Isaiah Abraham. It also calls upon the public to continue condemning evils that are consuming South Sudan so that South Sudan truly reflects the values for which millions of lives of its citizens were sacrificed for against the bloodiest policies of North Sudanese successive dictatorial regimes whose entire object was dehumanization of South Sudanese people in the Sudan.
