Hon. Telar Deng Welcomes His Rejection by Parliament, Thanks the President

Press Statement from Hon. Telar Ring Deng Appreciation President Salva Kiir

A Press Statement on my Vetting as the Minister of Justice

In the recent cabinet reshuffle, His Excellency the President nominated me as the Minister of Justice. My nomination, together with other colleagues, was submitted for confirmation to the Legislative National Assembly’s (NLA) Vetting Committee of the National Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
I fully cooperated with the Vetting Committee. I appeared twice before the Vetting Committee answering all their queries. However, yesterday, Tuesday afternoon, the NLA voted on the recommendations of the Committee Vetting. I was not confirmed by the parliament. This exercise marked the end of a vetting procedure. I congratulate all those colleagues who were confirmed by the parliament. I wish them all success in their new assignments.
But in appreciation and recognition of the importance of the vetting process, and the public interest it generated, I would like to make this short statement.
First, I fully thank the President for having the confidence in me to offer me a ministerial position in his cabinet and I absolutely abide by the decision of the August House.
Second, I also like to thank the members of the Vetting Committee and particularly Hon. Abuk Papiti, its Chairperson, and the staff of the Assembly for their role in the conducting their mandate. It must be said they carried out their work in the most difficult circumstances. In the short history of the parliament, it was the first time that a confirmation of a cabinet minister was carried out by secret ballot.
In this respect, I like to express my sincere gratitude to all the members of the Assembly, those who voted for my confirmation and those who did not, for taking their constitutional mandate very seriously. Once again, I thank the President for nominating me to the Cabinet as his Minister for Justice. I will continue to serve him and the government of this Republic in any capacity he deems fit as a loyal member of the party, the SPLM.
Finally, I would like to express my gratefulness to all my supporters, in their thousands, who stood with me throughout the nomination process. You have been my rock.
Thank you!
Long live the SPLM.
Long live General Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic.
Long live South Sudan!
Telar Ring Deng
