Great People of Aweil: Don’t Taint your Name in the history of South Sudan
By David Aoloch Bion
People of Aweil of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state are great, brave people in the Republic of South Sudan. They were noticed for their courage in the 21 years civil war that brought independent of South Sudan. That selfless participation in the liberation war put them at the top of the history. This made the people of South Sudan respected them dearly and proud of them
Now, the breaking news is half of Aweil people are defecting from the Government and joining the rebel leader Riek under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Dau Aturjong. This means, they are moving away from the right side of history to the wrong side of history. Riek Machar tainted his history when he defected in 1991 and joined Khartoum, the enemy at time. He is now at wrong side of the history.
Aweil people are now tainting their name in the history of South Sudan, if at all it is true half Aweil people are joining Riek as it reported in media. They are now self-rewriting their history into palimpsest.
Now Dau has joined the rebellion after 6 months. What was Dau doing last December when the fighting broke out in Juba? Nothing. Zero. Why Dau is joining rebels now? Only ONE REASON is Because President Kiir had not appointed him as an acting Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
Now in Juba, people are shocked, panic, nervous, frightened about Dau defection. Because people of Aweil are brave and many.
Last year, it is said President Kiir defeated Riek coup and his subsequent rebellion with the help from Paul Malong and his Aweil people. This can be true or false.
Now, Dau, who is from Aweil, has joined Riek. There is strong belief that the half of largest, bravest people of Aweil will join the rebellion and eventually President Kiir will be defeated by Riek with aiding of Dau. This can be true or false.
It is undisputable truth; people from Aweil are brave in character and large in number. The question is,
Do their brave and number mean they fight without a just cause?
Does it mean they fight for the sake of fighting without a just cause? The answer is NO, hundred times NO.
The beautiful, handsome, wise, rational, Great People of Aweil always shed their Holy Blood for a Just Cause like the liberation of South Sudan from Arab Domination. They can’t pour their dear blood in brother-to-brother, sister-to-sister war. Aweil People will not go to war for personal interest like one of Dau. If Dau is not appointed as an acting Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and his cousin Kuei Aguer is appointed.
Does it means the same brothers and sisters of Aweil must go war and kill one another in the war. NO. Hundred times NO.
It is my heartfelt wishes and prayer that my sisters and brothers from Aweil will not follow Adau Aturjong. My sisters and brothers should take Dau case as AN ISOLATED CASE like Bor, Twic, Hol, and Nyarweng people of Jonglei took the son of Hero Dr. John Garang as ISOLATED case. Mabior Garang joined the rebels and there is no single Bor soldier who is with him. He is alone with rebels. He has no just cause for his people to follow him.
All of us are frustrated by government of Kiir Mayar because of one reason or another, but there is no need for fighting him or justification of war of brother against brother, sister against sister. Kiir came to power peacefully and he will leave the power peacefully. Not violently through military coups and rebellions. We have so many ways available to remove President Kiir from power apart violent and bullets.
People of Aweil must know that Riek Rebellion and his subsequent Federalism have no blessing or benefits for them in whatsoever way! Federalism will give national resource like oil to people of Unity alone. Oil money is a now share equally among the ten states but when Federalism is established, the oil money will be only for Unity state alone. The following is conversation between two men about federalism recently
‘’Federalism is good ‘’, said the 1st man
‘’ How?’’ said 2nd man
‘’ It will create the competition among the states and give back local natural resources like oil to local people ‘’
‘’ What about states without resources, like oil?’’
‘’These states without resources like oil, will provide cheap labour for another states with oil. For example, if you money in Unity state, you can go and build a factory in Aweil where there are many, jobless people, you will provide them with jobs and they will provide you with cheap labour. . Just like Americans go to China and build factories because there is cheap labour in China’’
Great People of Aweil, you have nothing to gain from Riek Rebellion and his Federalism but being cheapest laborers in economy of South Sudan…
Long lives Malual Buoth Anyar
Long live Great People
Long live Northern Bahr el Ghazal State
