Minister Michael Makwei Lueth: A Spokesperson at the Fireplace!

In his job, uncle is not my uncle, but a public servant: a spokesperson at the fireplace!

By Kur Wel Kur

The only truth is that we cannot speak the truth. The only acceptable viewpoint is that we cannot express a viewpoint.” Murong Xuecun

With the above quotation, let’s come to this. I feel the need for the speed in this article, however, ironically, I confess that Honourable Uncle is not related to me in blood and I have never met him. He fathered children who are old enough and some of his daughters are married to intelligent and educated people.

He is a grandfather; his relatives and colleagues are many to defend him. Yet, their father or friend (for the sake of his colleagues) is not their father or friend in the ministry of Information and Broadcasting; but a public’s servant. This explains why none of them squabbled in respond to millions of critics.

On the note, in the name an uncle, the minister in the ministry of Information and Broadcasting is Honourable Michael Makuei Lueth. The youth flocked around him pecking at his hair, clothes, some so brave, perched on his lips trying to shut him up. However, they commit no sin in the eyes of the freedom of speech and democracy. The very democracy and freedom of speech, uncle exercises.

We learnt to unlearn too much, but we must remain to respect our origins and beliefs.   All humans observe a belief of respecting elders/seniors. Even animals such as cattle note this belief; a young bull distant itself from a cow on heat when the older and an experienced bull is around. An older bull bellows; the young bull never bellow in a reaction, suppose it defies the odds and bellows back, this young bull never reaches maturity without ‘manaam-naam’(disability).

In the context of this article, we will analyze which bullets soared out of his mouth that blasted and bulldozed the Bortown twice, Malakal twice and Bentiu Twice.

Though his words prickle at last but we must not forget whose words started this war. A reminder, on the December 06/ 2013, the impatient doctor (PHD), Mama Nyandeng Chol and G11 kindled the fire and beat the drum for this war. In Dec 06 conference, uncle sat in silence except jotting down some interesting points.

A week later, the president tried to cool off his brain with a few remarks in respond to accusations made on the Dec 06; the group raced out of the parliament. The war came. Now we, the youth in particular, point fingers at him, accusing him of the peace blockade. Until we carry our crosses, peace will never prevail. Youth must remove all hooks they hang their blames.

In order to solve the problem, we must know its full definition. The 2013 split does not equate to the 1991 split, when the three doctors collaborated to topple Dr. Garang. This time, Dr. Riek fragmented not only tribes but also families. My brother sympathizes with the rebels but he calls himself an independent. My sister sympathises with the rebels but she calls herself neutral and a peace-loving person. And yet, whenever, the government finds itself in the weakest link, they celebrate. When the government debilitates the rebels, they mourn it and dash to the hunger strike.

My sister and brother hate Honourable Makuei to the core, they see him as an ignition of war, but they hate him because he defends the government. They want to see the legitimate government collapse. For this, I call my brother and sister rebels because they support those who dishonoured the constitution and want to take the government by force.

Assume, the youth that are rebels, “independents” or “neutrals” criticise the government’s officials and praise the rebels’ leaders and officials. Do you believe peace will come?

Of course not, no doubts that youth plays incredible roles in this war. The government and rebels’ leader propels the youth to fight the war; the youth writes offensive articles to fuel the war.  This means it will take the youth to stop the war. However, not by spitting criticisms on seniors and forgetting that the change starts with oneself. Youth has a power to change the course of this war, suppose they unite and refuse to go to war, exchange or transcribe no ill intentions about one another.

I believe in doing the above-mentioned points, the youth will welcome back the peace in our beloved country. Nevertheless, if we admire Angony for writing the note we love about the government’s weaknesses and its officials or tribute Deng for attacking the silent educated people who stroll away with no comments about the war; we have a long journey to march.

Signs of war, Bortown, Bentiu and Malakal, blasted to ashes by the double hands, little developments made evaporated, over a million people forced out of their homes, little hopes people had vanished and both sides sent lives to either hell or heaven prematurely. Makuei has no missile that soared out of his mouth, which blasted and demolished those towns.

Nevertheless, who in their right minds will avoid saying a few words about the real rebels? Which words belong to him? Some people fabricated some of his statements, some are handpicked by those who encircle him in the name of friendship but in reality, they slit his throat by creating false statements.  Now, many fabricated statements float on the webs so I will concentrate on a recent statement of his, made towards Archbishop Daniel Diit Bul.

The media and youth picked the minister’s words (“they behave like rebels”) but they mentioned not the archbishop’s words. By so doing, we see unfairness or bias already. So why then, you judge while you failed at the onset? To remind you, archbishop is a title held by Christians; false accusations are not new to Christianity. Some verses in the Bible recorded these accusations, Christ himself died on the cross for being falsely accused.

Archbishop Diit has God on his side to defend him so if some are doing the defending, they must be advised that they are doing a wrong job. We must deal with our problems because God deals with His; “Give to Caesar what’s Caesar’s, and to God what’s God”. For this, we must obey the government of the day until its day expires, for all authorities come from God; Paul advised the Christians, “All must summit themselves to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authority that exist have been established by God.”

But, we deviate from this norm because humans, being sectarian (sectional) by nature, we hate an insult towards our own kind, however, suppose democracy and peace fill our hearts, we must individualise our deeds.

In conclusion, we will not remember most of what seniors verbalise now, but what we as youth, air out now will exist in future because we will wallow in the traps we set ourselves. We, the youth, own our country because we sit on over 50 % of the population.

To have peace and democracy in future, we must live them now; I know peace and democracy exist not in south Sudan but the youth must work hard for their (peace and democracy) existence in future. We must love ourselves regardless of tribes and not make a big deal out of what the ministers say or not say.

Above all, taking a liberty to belittle seniors will never help.  Keep in mind that a spokesperson will speak until the eternal wind sweeps out the last flame.
