Agar Community Press –Release
Subject: Condemnation of the Assassination of Paramount Chief
We regret the untimely death of Paramount chief Aparer Chut Dhuol which took place on 5th of August around 8.00 PM at his residence in Pacong after being shot dead by unknown gunmen.
We send our sincere condolences to the affected families and entire Agar Community. We urge the family not to retaliate and leave the matter to the law. We understand it is a very difficult time for them and all of us as a community of Rumbek. May God rest his soul in peace!
We condemn and denounce in the strongest terms the barbaric act and urge the concerned authorities to trace the culprits and bring them to books. We are also concerned about the ongoing insecurity and continuous ethnic killing that is escalating in lakes state.
We encourage the spirit of mutual support and togetherness in this hard time of temptation, wishing for peace and unity. As a community, we all stand in solidarity with the family of the deceased and we are extending our moral support.
We call upon our communities in Juba, Rumbek and everywhere else to refrain from encouraging retaliation but rather wait for the law to take course. We call upon the government to support us in addressing the issues facing our state and help rescue it from reaching a state of anarchy.
God bless Lakes State and South Sudan!
Hon. Daniel Deng Monydit
Chairman, Agar Community in Juba
South Sudan
Apareer Chut Dhuol was the brother of the current acting governor of Lakes State, Matur Chut Dhuol, and was allegedly killed by a son of a rival chief who was killed in 2002 by someone from Aparer Chut Dhuol’s clan. Reportedly, it was a revenge killing, like most murders that have been occurring in Lakes State that dated back to the pre-CPA era.
