WHO SHOULD LEAD IN REBUILDING DUK COUNTY?

By Wenne Madyt Dengs

Duk county leads in all counties affected by the forth conflict of South Sudan and in Jonglei state in Particular. The County has been facing heavy destructions as Nuer-lou bitterly ransacked all the administrative premises and to make the matters far beyond worst every hut is reduced to ash. This makes it difficult for helpless inhabitants to revive their homes. Though there are still more than 10,000 households living under the scorching sun in plastic sheet and being minimally fed by humanitarian organization (in Panaruu and Poktap).

I know many of you will ask me a question that “Why don’t you start with yourself?”. This is good to ask but let me tell you the main reason why I plan to write this article specifically.

I have trust, confidence and strong hope in Duk Youth as the corner stone of Duk people who are women, children and old aged (I mean those who were displaced in Ageer, Dongchak, Fagaak, Padiet, Panyang and Payuel payams). With courage and commitment Duk County has proudly achieved to be the community shield through the eminent loyalty displayed by Duk Youth when they admittedly played defensive role during the crisis. My thumb remains up for Duk Youth in cattle camp and I assure you that my tongue will never slip to say single unpalatable word. You are completely stars!

I attended number of meetings in Bor, Juba and few in Nimule recently. However, all these meetings were conducted by Youth and politicians with the ranking agenda to revive of Duk County. The last meeting I enjoyed was in October 2014 at Kush Resort hotel in Juba. In the meeting there were all “BIG BIG” of Duk County. The elders agreed that they should make sure that they are in Duk County before Christmas which was a perfect decision and I was really impressed based on this wise decision.

Well, I highlight the aforementioned meeting not to derive any bad intention but to clearly supplement on it. It is influential when the leaders of Duk County take courage and lead in revolution of Duk County; conversely, it gives the population morale to return to their cradle land.

I really pity the condition of my fellow county women, children and old aged living in single room in slum of Juba (Shirikat imagine!) congested and full of nose-diving garbage heaping everywhere. Subsequently, our young girls are getting spoiled as they are just entering into dirty civilization that includes unwanted roaming in the city which may lead loose of cultural way of life and traditional ethics.

In actual fact, I think it is a core responsibility for our current leaders to take the leading in resettling Duk County with immediate effect.
