Unity as a Tool to Overcome our Differences
The newly elected chairlady of Rumbek Youth Union (RUMYU), Madam Awut Mayom Agok, gave the following speech in her swearing in ceremony in Nairobi, Kenya.
“As one people, we need to develop the spirit of peaceful coexistence because no man is an island. We must extend our experiences as the so called learned to the community back home to make sure they also live in peace to give room for development.
“Through this association as a chairlady of the youth in this great community, we must learn how to handle our disputes among ourselves by taking an initiative to go home and talk to our brothers about unity in Lakes state.
“And as chairlady of RUMYU, I must start by talking to my brothers (Gelweng) and politicians and any person who carried out revenges which always target the educated people.”
And she further lamented the wanton killing along our states’ roads and markets in the state:
“If they to continue fighting in our states, we will remain behind in terms of development in the country. If your brothers in the cattle camp kill a student, definitely he has sold you away at that same price. We are against this. Other than that the vision and the success of Agar community is my mission.”
The number of people who witnessed the ceremony was over 200. These include some representatives from different communities like Warrap State, Greater Bor, Greater Yirol and Cueibet county.
The Chairlady gave her uttermost appreciation to those who have tirelessly struggle to solve the Lakes state intractable conflict, especially the team of elders headed by Philip Chol Kander, Magok Chilim Chok, Akot Dut Ajieng, Chol Dhieu.
She also paid a glowing tribute to members of the electoral commission: Chairman Hakim Majok Barkuei, Dhukpuou Maper, Malualchot Madit Maluach, and Matur Mabeny Achiek.
“These people have tried a lot to bring this community together, may God always bless the work of their hands. God bless Agaar community and may He blesses Lakes states and South Sudan at large,” she concluded her speech.
