President Salva Kiir and Vice President Wani Igga sharing a joke

June 7, 2015 (SSB)  —  According to GSS or Government of South Sudan travel diary, the Vice President has made three official journeys within a week.

28.05.2015 travelled to Abuja, Nigeria

01.06.2015 travelled to Khartoum, Sudan

04.06.2015 travelled to Berlin, Germany

Government officials are entitled to make trips abroad if these travels are for the interest of the country but not of their own. On many occasions the same government banned unnecessary travels by ministers because of the implications. Economic consideration is the number one among them.

The other day it was the same Wani, worried about the state of our economy that convened a regional economic rescue conference on the 5th and 6th of May to figure out the way forward.

Furthermore, it was the same vice president who talked about reducing government expenditure. Where is the travel money coming from when hard cash is hard to come by in the South? All is easier said than done.
