Rubkotni County intellectuals and youth celebrate the Defection of Gen. James Gai Yoach

Rubkotni County intellectuals and youth welcomed the sons of Leek who joined the Government

For Immediate Release

July 20, 2015 (SSB)  —  Intellectuals and youth of Rubkotni County of Unity State met on Sunday in Juba to thank Maj. Gen. James Gai Yoach and his officers from Leek community for joining the Government of South Sudan. Maj. Gen. James Gai Yoach, who was part of the rebellion of SPLM/A-IO, joined the Government on June 29, after realizing that Riek Machar was using Leek youth as cannon fodders to fight the democratically elected Government of South Sudan.

The public has to be informed that the return of Gen. James Gai Yoach with his forces to rejoin the Government of South Sudan was the work of Leek’s sons in the Government of Unity State. The Leek’s sons in the state Government of Dr. Joseph Nguen Montuil had a secret dialogue with Leek’s sons in the rebellion regarding the stability of Rubkotni County. After conducting confidential meetings, the Leek’s sons in the rebellion of Riek Machar concluded that Leek community in Unity State did not have any problem with the Government of South Sudan as well as Governor Nguen Montuil Wejang. Leek clan of Unity state is the closest Nuer clan to Bul Nuer. Leek and Bul have the highest intermarriages to the point that the mothers of most Bul and Leek Nuer political and military leaders are from Leek and Bul community.

Since the time immemorial, Leek and Bul have been living together and fighting together against external rivals. There has never been a time that the two closest Nuer clans ever fight against each other. The incidents of confrontations which took place after the attempted coup of 2013 were orchestrated by Riek Machar and Taban Deng Gai who wanted to divide Bul and Leek as a strategy to regain the control of Unity state at the expense of Leek youth. After December, 2013, Riek Machar and Taban Deng Gai implanted hatred between the two clans as part of their political stratagem to use the Leek youth as tools of destruction to fight their personal political wars.

After critically reviewing Nuer history, Gen. James Gai Yoach and Leek’s sons who were misled to join the rebellion came to logical conclusion to reunite with their Bul brothers in Unity State to end insecurity in the state so that the children of Unity state would return to schools. They realized that the war of positions being waged by Taban Deng Gai and Riek Machar against the Republic of South Sudan would deny the younger generation of Leek and the rest education and development while the sons of the two rebel warlords are pursuing their studies in London and Australia.

We the Leek’s sons in the state and national governments are profoundly delighted that our sons abandoned the rebellion of Riek Machar to bring peace in Unity State. The coming of Gen. James Gai Yoach to Juba marked the end of rebel activities in Unity state and ushered in a new era of peace and tranquility. From today, Rubkotni County will be a beacon of peace and prosperity because no more fighting would take place in Unity state after Leek’s sons rejoined their democratically elected government.

We congratulate our dear President, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, for being a good shepherd who always forgives those who are misled to take up arms against the state. The humble and kind leadership of our President is a gift that keeps the country together. Had it not been for the unifying spirit of our President, late Paulino Matip could not have joined the SPLA and the Government of South Sudan in 2006. The people of South Sudan are blessed to have a visionary, kind and forgiving leader like President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
