An Eagle Eye
By Dut Lual Anei
July 27, 2015 (SSB) — The encounters of the spiritually based notions and interventions are fading away while abandoning the basic beliefs to social engineering of the community desire for change. The primary instrument of social change as regarded to be a law seems to be causing us considerable damage in implementation with the agenda of spreading the gospels with limitless political possibilities or differing political orientations.
Any reader who has been following me on the editions of eagle eye would be an informant of the Christian based organization that has been operating during the struggle period for independence of South Sudan in a locale of Tonj, you will either appreciate or be a mind conservative like nobody can love the sinner and hates the sin. Don Bosco under the diocese of Rumbek has been instrumental in discharging duties which are theoretically deemed extremism in the defense of liberty to vice.
The said organization has better roots in India where many godly people were mushrooming into the space which was left behind by the colonial masters to have not explored better to live us with a say of the modern era civilization which is pegged at believing in God. The moderation in the pursuit of justice to societal reforms with social intensity has been a hope for the local community though it has a lot of self-doubts as situations subject us to “yes” or “no” depending on where your options are available from.
Fr. Lee memorial hospital as a written “will” instrument has led me into loggerheads with the Salesians family of Don Bosco since then but no retreat either, the diversion of the “will” and the failure to televised the video-tape during the South Sudanese brass band visit to South Korea with their able minister of information by then was a living testimony that, “will” was to serve the purpose but unfortunately, mollified actions were taken to let the sleeping dog lie. Many liberal sentiments have been put forward but deaf ears have swamped the truth wholly, the issue of the “will” which was later coded to be “smile Tonj project” is a war any sound minded citizen will fight to win or lose with experiences.
The Don Bosco family has been operating in Tonj under the pretext of spreading God’s message but as of recent past, only history will judge us if spreading gospel was rightly achieved but doctored to business-oriented agenda. Many government schools which existed before the writer was boen were lured out or taken un-noticed by the Salesians or the Don Bosco family based church while the humble community kept silence in addition to a strategic thousand hectares of land also taken, following their operations and policies of administration.
Government owned premises were used without any legal binding document to justify either as lease, buying and for how long and when will such premises be vacated? The teachers of these schools with Don Bosco names were paid by government and heavy school fees are periodically paid direct to the Salesians by the pupils, students and I wonder, to whom do such huge incomes belong to considering ownership?
Another ploy of the land has been gravely abused as such land was for the community would have been for physical development or be used as residences quarters for the right owners but its redundant now, so where is the development of the already established premises? Again, the Korena “will” which has evidence of backing by the family of the late Fr; Dr. Lee (R.I.P) is pocketed in the interest of “put it in Juba to generate incomes and deny the rest”. Lord of mercy, where is the correlation between the development, preaching gospels, taking vast land unjustly without any tax or license fees, lease amount to the “will”? Food for thought!!
Offertories are countless and the rate of development is one established premise to decorating with Bosco writings, 1:1, where is development? The church where our hearts were supposed to be orient and talked to, so that humble and reasonable community members are got from is still old building which cannot accommodate fifty (50) people, where does the tithes, offertories and other donations go to? Food for thought!!!!
On the other note, it has been decades since the relationships between the Don Bosco family with the community of Tonj was founded and the question is, why has there been no direct beneficiary of the scholarships of the same church to the children of the families who are on daily basis the source for land, premises and provides security which are claimed to be for Bosco family, and all amount to peaceful stay of the mission? Feel it and convince yourself that there is a problem with this mission before, now or later!!!!
Many people are fighting against the truths but it’s your choice to choose whichever side of the coin suits you, if the logic is allow to judge us, then the following must be reviewed immediately;
The goals and objectives of the mission must not deprive the community of its resources
The meaning of the church and the wording will be beneficial if only a modern infrastructure is put in place to avoid be soaked by rains on any single Sunday
Privatize Don Bosco mission by leaving out the government premises to allow total services to be delivered to the community
Any scholarships that come in the name of that community must be vetted and awarded on equal basis with clear transparency without flattering gain
Community land has to be given back in order to request formally for the land which they (Don Bosco) must pay fees to land commission a certain prescribed amount, surveyed and given a place to see how development oriented are they?
A corporate social responsibility that is going to be exemplary to the community be committed to and made to happen
To clear this cloudy doubts in the minds of people like me, if the above are not done, then you deserve to be audit financially and performances wise to see if there is no hidden agenda attached to this mission
Finally, this serves to be the last resort that, this Salesians family have marginalized the Tonj community for a long time and therefore, other optional dioceses are there including Marial-lou or Wau voluntarily.
