August 11, 2015 (SSB)  —  The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) which fought for the independence of South Sudan is a precious party with vision, mission and values which facilitated the process of achieving the independence. Despite the fact that war broke out as a result of misunderstanding among the party top leaders, the intra-party reunification is a positive initiative that can revive the unity of the people. Honestly speaking, there is no any other political party that can fill the vacuum if the SPLM does not unit and serve the nation specifically at this hour of dire need.

While the entire nation is appreciating the intra-SPLM reunification process which is seen as one way of ending the devastating war that engulfed the nation for nearly two years now, Hon. Gordon Buay seems to be working against it. Hon. Gordon Buay who has been appointed as ambassador without portfolio, and who also calls himself a general as he prefers is too active on social media. He abuses rebels and other alleged political opponents with indecent and un-diplomatic insults which are not expected from an ambassador.

These utterances do not only fuel the war but also plant permanent hatred amongst the people. Since Gordon is in high office, his views are not taken lightly like the comments from smaller boys who spend hours on social media composing damaging pictures of the parties they hate.

One of the requirements for the intra-SPLM reunification is for the parties to stop campaigning against one another. A trust is not developed when bad words are continuously uttered against another. Hon. Gordon Buay like his counterparts at the rebels’ camps has failed these crucial requirements.

Last evening Hon. Gordon triggered by what he knows better described Hon. Pagan Amum, the SPLM Secretary General as begging the other members of the SPLM National Liberation Council to reinstate him into the party. He added that Pagan is now a “commoner” a word he understands very well but probably meaning mere citizen.

In the same post, he ridiculed that Hon. Oyai Deng has resumed his studies for masters and Dr. Majak has decided to teach in Nairobi University. He mocked that they made these decisions after failing to topple the government. In part, Buay Wrote ‘The failure of the coup of 2013 turned the politics of South Sudan upside down. Those who were once on the first row of the SPLM party are now at the back”.

He continued that ‘Those who once thought they own the SPLM as their private company are now applying for membership to be reinstated back. The one who claimed to be the “mother of the SPLM/A has lost the membership card and she is now in a foreign country without carrying any card. This is the beauty of South Sudan politics”. Gordon added the Biblical quote that “the first shall be the last and the last shall be the first”.

These are the words of Gordon the ambassador although some stuffs have been left out for the purpose of brevity but generally, his last evening post means one thing, i.e. climbing up the political ladder in replacement of the true leaders.

This author agrees with Gordon Buay that the current war has produced new politicians that had never been heard of. Among them is the ambassador Gordon Buay whose existence comes into public attention after 15 December 2013, and many others in the rebels’ camp. But does this put them in the first row?

Looking back at the time when the SPLM/A fought the real enemy, Gen. Oyai Deng and Gen. Majak D’ Agoot whom he mocks today plus countless SPLA officers, NCOs and Constables were the real shields that protect the people. In those days, when the news of enemy advance is rumored, the question every child, woman and elderly person would ask was “Where is Oyai? And the simple answer would be “He is facing the enemy”. His battalion has crushed enemies’ tanks”. The battles that Commander Oyai fought with the enemy during the struggle cannot be buried by anything or anybody whose shield in the SPLA officers’ record cannot be traced.

Like Oyai, Commander Majak who left to the bush at his early youth age did not complete his studies. He fought many wars against the enemy including those who rebelled from the SPLM/A. Along his duties as a committed SPLA commander; he managed to study till he reached the academic pinnacle. If Gen. Majak indeed lectures in Nairobi University, then that is a pride for the SPLA guerrilla commanders to have their colleague at that level. He should be applauded for a job well-done instead of ridiculing him. Not all guerrilla Movements can produce intelligent and competent lecturers but SPLA has broke the record, good for history anyway.

Hon. Ambassador Buay also stated that there is a person who called herself ‘a mother of the SPLM’. Well, Kuor-midit has not elaborated clearly what he means but the reality remains; if there is a father to our nation then there must be a mother too. And the same mother is the mother of the political party, the SPLM that brought the independence. Denying this fact is a regrettable ignorance.

The SPLM new recruits must first acquaint themselves with the true history of the struggle for liberations. If secretary General for the party is described in such a manner as begging to be reinstated by the junior member in the party, how then can the SPLM intra-party reunification be achieved?

The author respects the decision that installed Buay as an ambassador but stresses that his loose expressions are in the expenses of the unity of the people. Honorable Ambassador Gordon Buay thinks that he can tarnish images of the leaders to maintain his position. He needs some controls or else he is planting permanent distrust among the people at the time peace is badly needed.

The leaders of the SPLM climbed up the political ladders because of their good performance. All the SPLM/A leaders are historic hardworking people not talkers. If Gordon Buay wants to be the first as shown by his Biblical quote of ‘Alpha shall be the Omega’, he better zips his mouth and does his job otherwise he will be a laughing stock when a full reunification of the SPLM is successfully concluded.
