"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing" By Konstantin Josef Jireček, a Czech historian, diplomat and slavist.

WHAT IS THIS POISONOUS THORN?

By Atilieu Diing, Kabarak University, Kenya

Tribal marks and ethnic lines

Civil wars and loss of lives

Looting, raids and massacres

Leaving all forever scarred

Politics, fear and confusion

The birth and murder of a nation

What is this poisonous thorn?

Piercing deep into our hearts

Promises, delays and failures

A new history of long war

Patience, they say but for how long?

Agreements proclaimed and signed

But at the end no clear signs

What is this poisonous thorn?

Our hearts have cried to their last

On our knees is where we are at

For an end to this slow liberation

And yet still we are pierced

Hurt so deeply as a nation

So the answer is in this question

What is this poisonous thorn?
