"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing" By Konstantin Josef Jireček, a Czech historian, diplomat and slavist.

A Journey of Few Miles and Dire Needs

By Samuel Reech Mayen, Kampala, Uganda

Each Lost Boys has a similar story, they parents were killed during an attack of their village, leading them to begin their extraordinary exodus. At the end of their epic journey, some boys had walked for 2000 km, an equivalent of hiking from Paris to Roma. Itang, Ethiopia. UNHCR / W. Stone / 1991

There is a need to travel a journey of few miles ahead

Not a journey of changing people but a journey of developing ideas

Not a journey of changing tribes but a journey of changing tribalism

Not a journey of targeting individuals but a journey of protecting all

Not a journey of bullets but a journey of ballots

Not a journey of enriching one’s self but a journey of equal distribution of resources

Not a journey of silencing rights activists but a journey of incorporating their views

Not a journey of compromising national sovereignty but a journey of protecting independence

Not a journey of accusing innocent foreign nations but a journey of boosting partnership

Not a journey of betrayal but a journey of patriotism

Not a journey to promote envy but a journey to promote love and unity

Not a journey to lock up opponents but a journey to benefit from diverse views

Not a journey to divide citizens but a journey to promote oneness

Few miles remain to reach and erase tribalism in the dictionary

Few miles remain to reach and embrace democracy

Few miles remain to reach and adopt Rule of law as a national tradition

Few miles remain to reach and discard suspicion and develop trust amongst the citizens

Few miles remain to reach and revive the dream of the heroes and heroin

Few miles remain to reach and build an ethical and conducive political atmosphere

Few miles remain to understand the devastation caused by the illegal acts and omissions

Few miles remain to reverse negative attitudes and behaviors

There is a dire need to accept peace as the only chance for survival

There is a dire need to observe and protect Human Rights for all

There is a dire need to revisit the cause for struggle

There is a dire need to train children to be good leaders of tomorrow

There is a dire need to strengthen public institutions

There is a dire need for equitable sharing of resources

There is a dire need for creating equal opportunities for all

There is a dire need to disarm civil population

There is a dire need to build a confidently secured nation

There is a dire need to end suffering

There is a dire need to wash away bloodbaths and promote recovery from war trauma

There is a dire need for accountability

There is a dire need to be more humane
