Equatorians Should Unveil their Forms of Federalism; President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar Have
President Salva Kiir’s Presidential Decree for Establishment of 28 States (click on the PDF)

October 5, 2015 (SSB) — One of the chief “wisdom” being bandied around concerning the recent decree by President Kiir is that his unilateralism is somehow a direction violation of the signed IGAD peace accord.
Given the fact that IGAD peace accord was itself imposed on the warring parties, at least on the gov’t, how can a unilateral peace accord be breached by a unilateral decision from the president? Which unilateralism violate the other, logically speaking? Sometimes, we work ourselves up bashing President Kiir to the point of self-delusion.
Good enough, Riek Machar and Salva Kiir have unveiled their “contentious” forms of federalism. Equatorians should now. At least, South Sudanese may then have a meaningful debate from there, based on competing merits and demerits of the various forms and systems of federalism presented.
As I wrote the other day, this is pure politicking between KiiRiek and their fanatical supporters. Riek Machar makes a political tool out of federalism to court Equatorians and Salva Kiir responded in kind.
Both are now back to square one.
This real-politicking has nothing to do with peace and development; to think it is, or has to be, is the beginning of confusion. Stop it.
