JIKANY COMMUNITY IN JUBA SUPPORTS THE ESTABLISHMENT ORDER OF 28 STATES

 For Immediate Release

October 13, 2015 (SSB)  —  The Jikany community in Juba met on October, 12, 2015 and discussed the benefits of the October, 2nd Establishment Order which created 28 states in South Sudan. The meeting was attended by Jikany Ministers, army officers, civil servants, former Governor and high ranking officials of former Upper Nile state. After thorough deliberations, the community unanimously adopted the following resolutions in support of the Establishment Order:
1. The community congratulates President Salva Kiir Mayardit for accepting the will of the people of South Sudan to have towns taken close to them. The leadership of Jikany is profoundly delighted that Latjor State is created because services will be closer to Jikany civilians than before. Prior to the Establishment Order, Jikany civilians used to walk for three to four days to Malakal town to get services. However, things will change with the creation of Latjor State.

 2. The boundaries of Latjor State and other states of former Upper Nile will be based on the boundary of former Nasir District which was created in 1970’s by the then Southern Sudan High Executive Council. The newly created Latjor State shall include the present four counties of Jikany.
 3. It should be noted that the newly established Latjor State includes the Burun tribe of Longechuk and Maiwut counties. The Jikany community must therefore dismiss the unfounded allegations that the Burun tribe of Longechuk and Maiwut counties are annexed to Eastern Nile state. The Establishment Order does not purport to alter the boundaries of four Jikany counties which are the basis of Latjor State.
 4. The Jikany community unanimously concluded that the Governor of Latjor State must come from Jikany who stood with President Kiir in this crisis so that Latjor State is disinfected from Riek Machar’s tribal politics aimed at dividing the people of South Sudan.
 5. The leadership of Jikany recognized the rebel faction of Gabriel Changson and Gen. Gathoth Gatkuoth as the only rebel faction that can share power with the Government in Latjor State. The facts on the ground reveal that the rebel faction which controlled rebels’ areas is that of Gabriel Changson and Gen. Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang.
