Eastern Lakes state politics aside, let me say this!
By Emmanuel Sunday de John, Nairobi, Kenya
October 19, 2015 (SSB) — When the presidential order number 36/2015 AD for establishment of 28 states was broadcast by various and varied media houses, it sounded like a dream come true. To us the order got a grand applaud from significantly huge pupolation of the country. Despite that huge acceptance, Kiir’s Naysayers have talked ill although not with their usual engraved audibility.
Riek and company, G10+ and sympathisers want it reversed by running to their master architects to at least denounce the whole thing altogether or even with a sense of par-ti pris render it null and void as if it has never been established before. As if that was the order required, independent opinion leaders voiced their worries or elation and I quickly wrote my article that was published domestically in my Column the “Streets Sweeper” under the heading, Creation of 28 states is the way to go! The article as well featured in PaanLuel Wël blog and many other avenues.
The reactions including numerous celebrations in different parts of the country are all but portrayal of cheerfulness. However, my today’s Facebook post is not all about the politics being played in Juba and elsewhere, rather it is a voice added to those other audible voices on political bottlenecks surrounding Yirol and her new leadership in the pipeline.
It is authentic to claim this and that as meetings had it, but it is also acceptable to allude to the fact that something bothersome is amidst. With proposal here and there, I don’t have a problem. However, I am not contended with the arguments staged to anchor the whys and hows of the presumed meticulous proposal of individuals in different parts of Yirol as supposed governors to governmentalise the state in the near future.
The groups from Yirol East have been reported to might have claimed that they wanted the post simply because they haven’t participated in the previous governments at both Lakes and Central governments citing some individuals who don’t hail from Yirol East but who have served in different capacities to justify their claims, in the same token members from Yirol West made a big deal out of small argument that the host issue is paramount and the Awerial people although less ravenous in quest for leadership have also cited their misgivings and hence a conclusion was made with list of 6 availed to be the benchmark for selection.
Methinks, if somebody from Yirol East doesn’t become the governor, it won’t mean those from Yirol West or Awerial in the central government would be dislodged and then them employed instead, it doesn’t as well stop Yirol from existing and this is true for Awerial and likewise, establishing a new state doesn’t require somebody from Yirol West that isn’t a law or a tradition and hence won’t be a genuine reason to prevent Eastern Lakes state from establishment whatsoever.
They are opinions of dispicable magnitude and I would congratulate Mangar Agok Marial and Madhieu Marial for having firmly despite all those ideas of discord. The arguments were but all not unifying, indeed the feeble excerpts were all but leeway to adduce misgivings, sentiments all for a wrong start. There is no lack of leaders or lack of leadership in Yirol. We have what its take to be the envy of our neighbors but that idea of starting from the end won’t make us any significant in terms of development, tranquility and feasibility of coexistence serenely.
I have no objection for newly endorsed applicants. Fight over who to take which seat isn’t in my interest , instead I am interested in things like good developmental plans aimed at satisfying the masses in villages and towns around. It boggles my mind the idea of a good leader. We need not to be incapacitated as people of Yirol. First of all we don’t want a boss, we want a leader. A leader will focus his attention to the direction of development.
We don’t want a boss that would eventually opt to boastfully oppress and depress us. We don’t want leaders that will use intimidation as a mean of survival and governance. We don’t want resource oriented fellow who will eventually resort to enriching herself/himself with our merger resources and turn us into a laughing stock by initiating petty conflicts to focus people’s attention away from his misdeeds.
We don’t want a leaders that will keep Panekar Second below par, We don’t want a leader that will lead with pomposity so as to veer us off the road to success especially in domestic tranquility. We want a leader characterized by humility, nationalism, not tribal, uniting and above all not corrupt, of course to be a man or woman of tested integrity.
Those fighting hard in support of their bread winners should now go to the drawing board and establish whether the possibility of leading Yirol in a tranquil manner based on characteristics of leadership is an asset to their camp. The list shouldn’t be declared close, it should be reopened and more names added and that will eventually means tranquility. I don’t have to say so and so are qualified or not.
NONETHELESS, I want our Yirol to be Yirol were issues are addressed not petty self-centered claims of I wasn’t that, I own this or I owe so and so this and that. It is advisable to look for a leader that won’t cause regret in the near future. One that will not be whom we don’t want. Regrets are painful and daunting.
I hope the state shall be headquartered in Panliet with expansion to Marial Agok so that the vicinity and aroma of Lake Yirol aren’t diminished from our sights as young products of that beautiful country. I have no interest in displacing Jilek rather as my uncles I know they have very many Paneliets for expansion.
