Nilepet increases fuel rates in Juba

December 17, 2015 (SSB)  —  A little maths can sometimes clear up muddled thinking. Has ‪#‎NilePet‬ increased or reduced the fuel prices in Juba?

Yes, you heard me right.

Majority, with fury, have already condemned the supposed hiked prices. But is it true, intrinsically speaking? Let’s see, taking the depot rate as the baseline.

Previously, before the gov’t float the pound, the depot rate was 6ssp per litre, which, at the then official rate of 3.16ssp per dollar amount to $1.8987 per litre.

Today, NilePet, in reaction to the decision taken by the Central Bank, understandably changed the depot fuel price per litre from 6ssp ($1.8987) to 21ssp, which, calculated at the present exchange rate of 18.5ssp per dollar, would amount to, yes, $1.1351.

Put it differently, the fuel price used to be $1.8987 per litre but it is now a mere $1.1351, a whopping reduction of 42.22%.

Thus, NilePet, has actually reduced the fuel price by 42%.

And besides, the Junubeen in diaspora bemoaning the increased in fuel prices in Juba: how much are you paying per litre in your respective countries? Exercise little reasonableness kockuo (my people).

Show me your maths before begrudging the gov’t, or else be appreciative and celebratory for the great Christmas gift from your beloved government.

Have I made your day? That was the intention. Share your elation, ruination.

Merry X-mass Junubeen. We shall overcome.
