Political Gerrymandering in new Jonglei state: Let us leave the status quo as it is for now
By Joseph Bul Gayo, Perth, Western Australia
March 1, 2016 (SSB) — Many concerned citizens from Duk and Twic East counties have expressed their dissatisfactions with the unfair distributions of ministerial posts and the allocation of MPs. It is fit for concerned and informed citizens to express their trepidations for issues which might directly affect them in their constituencies. I was one of the concerned citizens who believe that unfair representations in the new JS should be addressed.
But, as for now, I believe that it is hard to change the current status quo, so it’s important to move forward with the current status quo and the pending unfair representation will be solved later in the future. It’s good that the complaints and petitions from concerned citizens have reached the office of Governor Aguer Panyang. It is now up to Aguer to amend it or leave it as it is. This is my last article on social media on this issue, and I will be happy with whatever decision Gov. Aguer makes, ‘amend it or leave it as it.’
ONCE upon a time, there lived a small with his parents. He was seven years old, very handsome and active. One day his parents planned on a journey to a nearby town. They took off on their journey, as they were waiting for the bus. The small boy saw a very beautiful lady on the opposite side of the waiting bench. The small boy started crying and cried out loudly to the point that he drew the attention of all people waiting for the bus. Both parents convinced him to keep quiet, but the boy continued crying and crying. Other people tried as well to convince the boy to keep quiet, but all with no success. Then his father got up and stood on his two feet, and cogently ask the boy.
“Tell me what do you want and I promise to you in the name of God, I will get it for you.” The small boy suddenly and surprisingly kept quiet. His father asked him again, “tell me what you want.” Then the small boy euphorically wiped his tears and pointed at that beautiful lady in front of him and said, “I want that “something” between her legs.” The atmosphere was fraught with immediate silence. The father of the boy retorted in no mood for compromise. Oi, ayah yah yah yaaa, “My son, you will NEVER get what you want, how dare you demanded this “thing” at the age of seven. No matter how many hours you cry, you will never get it and if you don’t keep quiet I will beat you now.”
The beautiful lady intervened and told the father of the boy, “he is just a small boy, please don’t beat him. Try to comfort him, when he is 14 years old, he will understand and might get what he wants.” The boy continued crying and crying loudly. The beautiful lady requested the father of the boy, if the boy can come and just ONLY sit next to her. The father did it as requested by the beautiful lady, the small boy went and sat just next to the lady and he kept quiet once and for all. The waiting passengers clapped their hands, and the awaiting journey began smoothly with no problems at all for all the passengers including the small boy.
Years later, when the small boy was 14 years old. His father remained him about that incident. “Son, what made you to ask for something you won’t get 7 years ago?” The boy replied, “It is all good daddy, I am 14 years now, I have recently got what I wanted in the first place. I understand now, daddy you let me cried for nothing. You should have told me it is just ONLY a matter of time. I was only 7 years by then, and now I am 14 years and I just got it.”
The father of the boy then said, “Your demand at that time was absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to achieve, but sorry I forgot to tell you that when the right time comes, you will get what you want.” The father and the son then shook hands together euphorically, and said, “Time solves the problem.”
This story tells the importance of ‘TIME’ and it emphasizes that, what is impossible now, will be possible in the future. So, I rest my petition and concern for unfair distributions of power in the new Jonglei State.
I personally see the ‘government’ as a big fat cow with different sorts of meats for the masses. The new JS will be enough for all of us. All of us will find employments in different sectors. For example, when I choose to go back home, I will definitely find an employment spot within the National Security’ or widely within the Defense sector.
All the best to Governor Aguer Panyang, and thanks to concerned and informed citizens of Duk and Twic East Counties who expressed their dissatisfactions due to unfair allocation of power within the new JS.
