I encourage Duk Community to fight for elephant meat instead of chicken bone

By Bol de Garang, Australia

March 26, 2016 (SSB)  —-  Duk Community is a great society with comprehensive of peace and coexistence towards its neighbouring communities. Therefore, this is why it has a very strengthen relationship with Twic East Community for decades more than other communities in old Jonglei State because Twic East Community is a humble community with dignity and integrity towards other communities.

When gubernatorial nominations were made and the dysfunctional Greater Bor Community under mouthpieces Michael Makuei Lueth made a calls to give gubernatorial nomination to Twic East County to nominate new Jonglei State governor. Duk Community become very confident knowing that Twic East Community would nominate a person who they think would bring changes among the communities of Dinka of new Jonglei State.

Well, their confidential toward Twic East Community had come true. Twic East Community went well and nominated what they called best among the best candidates who were contesting for the position of Jonglei State governor. Hence, after Twic East Community concluded their process. They submitted names of their top three candidates they cogitated could fulfill the position of governor while Aguer Panyang was the leading person.

When candidates’ names reached President Kiir Mayardit. Well, President Kiir Mayardit was having a trust on Aguer Panyang as he was SPLA spokesperson. Mr President also respected the position of Twic East for endorsement they’ve made on Aguer for the position of Jonglei State governor. Thus, a nominated candidate Mr Aguer Panyang became a governor of Jonglei State through a decreed announced on State Television known as SSTV when all governors of created 28 States become legitimate in the country.

Therefore, when announcement of Mr Aguer Panyang as the governor of Jonglei State appeared on SSTV screen, it sparks as joys amongst citizens of Jonglei State worldwide. A lot of congratulatory messages from the distance people reached him through phones and social media and walked through for the closest people. It was like dream come true for people of Jonglei State to have a man who helped them during calamities in 1991 to help them again in this economic calamity.

The governor Aguer Panyang commenced his job as a governor of Jonglei State by walked on his bare foot through all Payams in three counties of Twic East, Duk and Bor respectively to listen to their views and opinions on how we should govern our newly created State. Well, it was a great initiative supported by all citizens of Jonglei State back home and diaspora with a lot of songs composed to praise him and his achievement in 1990s when he was a head of SSRC.

Therefore, when he concluded his State tour and wanted to form his cabinet and legislative assembly. He was then hijacked and lost his mission of why he was nominated for State top job. Mr Governor hijacked came when two wolves in sheep from the National government in Juba spearheaded him as a governor of people. The two wanted their systems to be applied by Aguer Panyang as governor for their interests while majority of Jonglei State citizens want changes on power sharing. Aguer Panyang began his nomination of Ministers wrongly by given Bor County 4, Twic East County 1 and Duk County with 2 Ministers.

The selection process sparks into conflict because Twic East and Duk counties respectively didn’t agree with such allocations. Those mentioned communities’ calls governor Aguer Panyang to act according to what would bring peace and coexistence among the communities. However, Mr Aguer failed to understand them and continued with his selection. His continuation and allegations of MPs to be allocated per 12 for Bor County, 6 for Twic East County and 3 for Duk County had contributed to Duk Community anger to the point they want to withdraw from Jonglei State and request their separate State from the President.

Therefore, as individual person, I am really happy about how Duk Community had addressed the allocations of Jonglei State Ministers and MPs. The noises they’ve made to the governor Philip Aguer Panyang and his government has changed or will change conceptualization of power sharing in Jonglei State.

A similar call would go for Twic East Community whether they want to live as voiceless in their State or should their voice to be heard to change Jonglei State to better? If Twic East Community could endorse what Duk Community has started, I do believe Bor County won’t walk away with 4 Ministers and 12 or 9 MPS in Jonglei Legislative assembly.

Moreover, the unity Mr Aguer Panyang the governor of Jonglei State preached when he was doing his State tour would die in vain should he disown or disobey the voices of Duk and Twic East Communities towards his administration. However, Mr Aguer Panyang need to know that he won’t be governor of Bor County alone without her sisterly communities of Duk and Twic East counties.

Another interesting point is how Duk Community terminated their membership from Greater Bor Community. I’ve observed it as way forward because every community should always have one voice instead of individual’s interests. The Greater Bor Community was formed by individuals for individuals to control the minds of majority in our State affairs.

Twic East Community withdrawn her membership long time ago, those remain in the GBC are individuals with individual interests but not in form of Twic East Community. Geographically, culturally, politically and economically our community shouldn’t be subjected into dysfunctional organization like Greater Bor Community. I’m requesting Twic East County to act according to what would bring peace to our communities. We want changes in our State and to achieve peace we need to understand ourselves.
