By Deng Machar Atem, Australia
April 25, 2016 (SSB) —- As everyone is sensitized on the upcoming episode, the Twic East federal election in the picturesque city of Melbourne, Victoria comes April 30, 2016. The people of Twic East County have migrated to Australia in hundreds of thousands like other people from Jonglei State or perhaps South Sudan and settled across down Under (For readers’ caution, Down Under is used casually in this sentence to refer to Australia in specific excluding other Southern Hemisphere’s countries).
Prior to their arrival, they formed Twic East community leadership across all States and Territories of Australia. Due to the fact that all States and Territories of Australia have different constitutions, each Twic East Leadership was formed and registered in accordance to the laws of State or Territory in which it was formed. Today, believe it or not, the Twic East’s States and Territories leaderships grown beyond expected and the whole community and friends of goodwill are together in celebration of this achievement.
After fruitful realization of hard-work, dedication and determination in clusters of leadership already molded, Twic East community came up with federal idea as interconnecting and unifying umbrella. Beside other objectives and principles pertaining to the formation of Twic East Federal Association, the few amongst other opinions were; to spotlight community in internal and external affairs that needs attention of Twic East and to help in integration of community into White communal beside other communities.
The first Twic East Federal Association was formed in April 2008 in Sydney, NSW headed by irreverent figure in the name of Yaak Deng Akoi and assisted by Mangar Ayuel Malual. Indeed, the entire leadership was consisted of twelve elected members from every administrative unit of Twic East County in Jonglei State, South Sudan.
It’s incontestable that the dysfunctionality of the would-be change Twic East Federal office was known since its inception. Alongside Chairman feeble for leadership, there were individuals who armed themselves with mirages and inly-felt ideas outnumbered competent and tank-thinkers individuals in the office. Those Manichean thinkers shunning other people’s opinions and turned the office into trivial matters and run it in haphazard work fashion!
Today, Twic East community have gregarious, extrovert, charm and young intelligent contestants who stand-up for top leadership position. According to alphabetical order, the challengers are: Deng Chol Riak of Pakeer Payam, Maar administrative unit and Kuer Dau Apau of Adhiok, Lith Payam of Wernyol district.
One would not question the cultural chasm of the above mentioned opponents both in old and new culture. They are intellectuals, fathers and mentors at some point. Above all, they are non-descript leaders with successful records from pass experiences and one would momentarily say they’re pragmatists of the 21st century in our community. They’re torchbearers to put it precisely!
However what remains critical and perhaps undoubted source of consternation is the involvement of consequentialists in the campaign. They have been doing campaign fray without employing any intrinsic property. Their staunch support for individual is very shallow. They talked of physical appearance and pedigree amongst others.
The roles of these underground campaigners and indeed clannists are against the unity of Twic people. Twic East community have criteria pertinent to judgment and selection of leaders across States and Territories of Australia. They said selection criteria are not limited to; capability of individual, motives, behaviours and skills in comparison to past accomplish just to mention few.
In conclusion; our people have to be mindful about how they define community leadership. It is more of voluntary than gaining and community must look for courageous, servant and inspirational leader. Our community leadership needs someone who will underpin and cement our unity internally and externally. Therefore, careful analysis needs to be direct to intrinsic and extrinsic properties not pedigree of the candidates. Though choosing a good community shepherd is tough, people must focus on elusive and transformational qualities in addition to communication, personalities, confidence and technical skills of individual candidate amongst others.
