May 12, 2016 (SSB) — It is a bad day for Bor Airport to have recorded two incidents of planes that almost crashed at the run way of Bor regional Airport chattered by South Stone and WFP.
The plane chartered by South Stone is the first time for it to land in Bor and was carrying 48 passengers and 7 crews from Juba to Bor.
“It landed safely at 10:40 and could not make it to the end of the run way, the pilot assumed that he could make it by the end of the run way at the 180 degrees so the right gear stuck on the other side of the run way,” Kuot John Akech the Director of Bor Airport and civil aviation in Jonglei state told the PaanLuel Wël (SSB) website.
“So we rushed and took the passengers out after. No any injury no damage from the crew or passengers,” Kuot added.
In related development after ten minutes 748 plane chattered by WFP with 4 passengers and 2 crews landed on the run way violating communication with the air traffic controller.
“It landed in short distance because it was high and was not able to make it at the end of run way
The Pilot and the Co-Pilot were taken to the UN hospital for drug and alcohol test and the report was negative.
The company has already sent the engineer from Nairobi to Bor to examine the cause of accident. Bor Civil aviation director also suggested that the strong wind attributed to the plane incident.
The passengers of both planes have no injuries but the Anti-Nop 30 has small problem at the tail and the nose that touches the ground as the result of ultimate break.
WFP plane almost crashed in 2013 at Bor Airport when the wheel of the plane got damage, another incident happened in Panyagor when the plane carrying non food items chattered by WFP hawker crashed in Twic East killing the crew but the engineer survived.
