Jonglei state: IGP warns states commissioners of police on unified number plates

May 13, 2016 (SSB) —- The South Sudan inspector General of police Gen. Makur Marol Aduot has directed states commissioners of police and directors of traffic police to cease manufacturing states number plates and described states number plates as local.
The national council of ministers, in its Extraordinary meeting No. 02/2016 resolution No. 25/2016 held on Wednesday 3rd February 2016 resolved and directed all the states to implement the order and unify the motor vehicles, motorcycles and driving licenses data system across the country. The period for implementation of this order is 60 days from May 1st 2016.
You are therefore directed to acquire new number plates from Jonglei state traffic police office within the above articulated time frame. The cost of replacement is a sole responsibility of your institution and ranges between 4,620 and 1,550 SSP.
“The cost of private vehicle (white plate) 4,420, commercial vehicle (black plate) 4,620, Public transport (Green plate) 4,620, government vehicle (yellow plate) 2,650, private motorcycle (white plate) 3,192, commercial motor cycle (Green plate) 3,237 and government motorcycle (yellow plate) 1,550 SSP,” The letter reads.
He said in a letter, it has been reported that some states are working contrarily with this trend. Makur warned and directed “please respect these directives otherwise stern measures will be taken against anyone not adhering to orders above mentioned.
“It has been observed that the presence of so many number plates in different states has caused confusions. It was therefore decided that the number plates for vehicles and motorcycles should be unified and centralized through the country and this approved by council of ministers. No more local number plates,” IGP Makur explained in a letter seen by PaanLuel Wël (SSB) website.
“No more manufacturing of local states vehicle plate’s numbers is allowed. The national traffic headquarters will be the only source of all types of plates any state police commissioner continuing in the production of such plates will be questioned administratively,” Makur further warned.
