The true size of Africa

July 6, 2016 (SSB) — This commentary piece is narrating some obvious reasons why the third world’s countries do not experience rapid stability after independents. The Third world’s countries are defined as poorest and least developed—developing countries in the world.

In other words, the third world is a combination of all those countries whose social security, economic well-being is not improving, political situations are not stable and no sustainable development being done. On top of all has been the rampant instability weighing against a badly needed stability across those countries.

The third world countries are poor not because they lack natural resources. No! It’s because of an imbalances division of available national resources and imbalances devolution of governing power by those countries’ leaders to lower levels or people. All these kinds of imbalances are what constantly causing rampant instability to continue throughout third world or least developed world.

So some of these reasons why the Third World countries do not experience economic and political stability right from the independents are:

One is tribalism, where you can find each President has surrounded himself with selfish counsellors (aides) and subordinates. This is the source of rampant corruption where they consider the national resources as the ruling elite/clique properties and use these resources to keep them in power.

Two: the leaders do mix-up military and civil leaderships in the states. Instead of equipping the army to tackle the external threatening forces, they use national army to target certain groups from within politically.

Three: the spirit of forgiveness does not completely exist in African or third world’s leaders’ hearts. The worst part of all is that, the third world leaders do not want to imitate modern governing techniques from outside world. In this regards, you can even hear some of these leaders addressing people in public saying without shame that “This is the third world, so we don’t have to copy and paste governing techniques from the First or Western World Countries”.

You can hear them speak as if it was God who created the third world countries to remain poorer and poorer forever.

To me, those governing techniques are not biological things or cultural kind of practices where you may say I don’t have to change this and that because it is a taboo in culture! But even in cultures nowadays, some cultural norms are bound to change. Especially at this time of globalization which is speedily shaping some several part of cultures’, particularly harmful practices.

For instance, in some part of Africa; a century ago there were some of the African ethnic groups whose men did not eat chickens. But now these said ethnic groups’ men can eat chickens as much as other human beings are doing worldwide. So the world of today is all about innovation and imitation of all good things that can make life easy and more stable.

Four: the leaders are not interested in giving chances to the new bloods in ruling the nations. They opt to cling into power for life. The potential statesmen; thinkers, charismatic and liberal leaders who may even performance better in leadership have all been politically blocked. The blockers are saying “Since he is not from our group or not loyal to us, let’s keep him out of power until he dies”.

They intriguingly chained down these opposition leaders for the reason that these opposition leaders remain in Opposition for life and die as Opposition Leaders. Among these opposition Leaders politically blocked are Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai of Zambwe, Dr. Kizza Besigye of Uganda, Mr. Raila Odinga of Kenya, Dr. Lam Akol of South Sudan…name them.

This is the reason why, genuine democracy, political stability, economic and sustainable developments cannot take roots in the Third World Countries mostly in Africa. Therefore, these Third World countries’ pervious Dictators and current sitting leaders need to be account for inflicting inhumane deeds on their own citizens. Or not accommodating stability in their home countries.

Late South Africa former President, Nelson Mandela set a very good example when he preside South Africa for only few years and voluntarily stepped down for new blood to take over. Yet the current leaders of the Third world countries or Africa do not want to follow the Mandela and other democratic leaders’ footsteps.

In conclusion therefore, I partly agree with US Republican Party’s candidate, Donald Trump who recently described Africa as a continent  which would never progress democratically and that its people, therefore, need to be re-colonized once more time. Mr. Trump got it wrong here because he generalized all including the African ordinary citizens! Ordinary African citizens are not the ones resisting democratic systems, innovations and modern life in Africa.

Rather, the African leaders who keep amending the nations’ constitutions—extending Presidential terms limits because they want to remain in power for life are those resisting the needed changes. By itself, choosing rampant economic and political instability over rapid economic and political stability is a crime.

So, Donald Trump could have said, the then and current Third world Counties or sitting African Dictators need to be collected in mass and sentence to life imprisonment for not making Africa a better place to live in. If the UN world governing body, the Security Council was in need of saving innocent people lives!
