July 30, 2016 (SSB) — The J-1 coup attempt that happened on the 8-10 July 2016, has claim many people lives and we must remember them on this martyrs day. It was accompanied by brutality, killing and massive abuses of human rights on a scale that is yet unparalleled because of the length and breadth of its inhumanity as civilians were killed by the opposition forces.

This may have gross and significant long term effect on the sociology-cultural and economic growth and development of south Sudanese communities and still lie at the root of fractionalization, ethnicity, conflict and instability in several parts of the country.

It has left an indelible psychological scar on most South Sudanese and plays a serious role in determining South Sudan’s situation visa vis the rest of the neighboring states and it is significant also that though UN, AU, I GAD acknowledge the depravity of the conflict in south Sudan, scant attention is giving to addressing it impact and redressing it wrong and instead they are calling for an arms embargo and sanction.

I calls on all the south Sudanese to use this day to remember the evil of war and how millions of our people suffered and continued to suffer in consequence of power greedy people. Therefore, all south Sudanese in various walks of life must take an oath that we can and never ever allow this to happen again in any form.

We must also orient ourselves to acknowledge and address our internal issues among ourselves and we must promise and use the legacy of our heroes and heroines to foster the goal of togetherness, integration and auto-centered government in south Sudan.

Our past should also serve as beacon of unity and platform of rebuilding the nation and as instrument of our renaissance. Our goal should be to use this martyr’s day to strengthen our communities regions for the benefit of people of south Sudan and we should strive to promote political economic, social and cultural contribution on basis of our diverse heritage.

In this spirit, we south Sudanese should remember our dark past so that we do not relive them and to use this memory as a basis of building a better today and ensuring a better tomorrow.

I ask that each and every south Sudanese honor the memory of the victims of J-1 coup attempt as well as freedom fighters who fought and struggled to liberate our country as well as those who continue to struggle to defend it.

Together in this spirit we will ensure that the sun will rise today and tomorrow for us as people of one nation.
