The fate of Laurent Gbagbo and Muammar Gadhafi: What the UN, AU and IGAD has in store for President Kiir

By Ariik Atekdit Mawien, Juba, South Sudan

August 26, 2016 (SSB) — In 2011 when South Sudan was preparing to get its independence from the Muslim dominated and Arab minded Sudan. Countries like Ivory Coast and Libya were badly experiencing the United Nations and United States planned continental coups to undermine Africa.

Alassane Ouattara has been a prominent opposition leader in Ivory Coast intending to take over the country’s leadership from the then incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo. After elections, Gbagbo was declared the president defeating his rival and UN backed politician Mr. Ouattara.

A number of countries, organisations and leaders worldwide claimed Ouattara had won the election. After months of attempted negotiation and sporadic violence, the crisis entered a decisive stage as Ouattara’s forces began a military offensive in which they quickly gained control of most of the country.

The said International organizations reported numerous human rights violations, and the UN undertook its own military action with the stated objective to protect itself and civilians, just exactly like the way it is happening in the current South Sudan’s crisis were JMEC, the International NGOs and UN agencies are said to be the reason why the strong Protection Force should be brought into the country.

As the war continued in Ivory Coast in 2011, Mr. Gbagbo was captured and arrested by UN backed pro- Ouattara forces. Very quickly Ouattara took over the Presidency and was interestingly installed and praised by United Nations and the Western allies. Badly enough, Mr. Gbagbo, the ousted leader was handed over to ICC in The Hague to be convicted as Africa silently witnessed the ordeal. They want to implement that on President Salva Kiir in order to have a total regime change in the world youngest country quickly before it gets stable to stand alone and strong.

This was exactly what UN & US wanted to do in South Sudan imposing an agreement with two armies and planned to bring into Juba a heavy armed forces to plan overthrow the government of National Unity they were supposed to protect as IGAD look at the curtain, the secret movie. When the calculus of interest fails to calculate any result in Africa for the West, they immediately instruct organizations to write down Human Rights Violation reports in order to oust the government and install new presidents in any country in order to get what they want and loot resources to support their governments and people in the West.

The Intervention Forces or Protection Forces intended to be sent to South Sudan are coming to meaningfully overthrow President Kiir from J1 without question. If we can form a Transitional Government of National Unity and Parliament all unified in one cabinet hall and one august house in Juba; what then will prevent us to create one transitional army of national unity? And if that is possible!  Why then should we look for an international force to disturb the nation in unity implementing peace not war?

We are implementing peace gentlemen! We are not implementing wars as you intend to make on South Sudan. I am inspired by Taban Deng Gai for having quickly realized to create one army for the country in peace. It is ridiculous to make two armies who should be protecting one united government. If you can unite the cabinet and parliament why can’t you unite the army?

President Maumur Gadaffi of Libya was another innocent victim of the West who was badly killed after he had successfully turned Libya into a worldly heaven in Africa. Full of jealousy the West thought out of reasons to overthrow the Libyan President in order to interfere into the resources of Libya. When it was difficult to put side Mr. Gadaffi, they killed him and they lucratively went away unquestioned, as the then beautiful Libya became an uncontrollable mess in Africa giving a route way for terrorists into the region.

“Neither Libyan leaders nor the International Criminal Court have investigated the shooting in custody of Gaddafi’s remaining fighters, nor the details of Gaddafi’s death or the apparent execution of his son Motassim,” – Vivienne Walt. Indeed if Human Rights watch was for everybody including Africa. Then ICC would have not kept silent without questioning the reasons behind the killing of Gadaffi. The overstaying in powers doesn’t qualify a person to be criminal and deserve death like the way Gadaffi disappeared and the African leaders remain disciples to the Western politicians.

The intervention of NATO has not brought any peace to Libya nor did the presence of IGAD and US forces brought any stability in Somalia. Again what type of peace do we have today in Central Africa Republic (CAR) and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)? Yet these countries have a lot of UN missions intending to keep peace.

What we have recently seen is the fact that UN missions in South Sudan and elsewhere have become war keepers rather. The example is that they have polarized Protection of Civilians sites (POCs) in Juba, Malakal and Bentiu as a lot of ethnic conflicts continue to exist. If UNMISS forces cannot control IDPs in the PoCs, how can they claim to control the entire nation? And successfully the government has brought to control the residential areas yet they want the IDPs to remain in camps in order to extend their mandate in South Sudan.

The Protection Forces or Intervention Forces said to come to South Sudan will without doubt strive to overthrow President Salva Kiir.  The Example of Laurent Gbagbo of tiny African Ivory Coast is being tried on Salva Kiir and the throw out and overthrow of Maumur Gadaffi is the daily calculation dialed on move by United States and their allies within the IGAD bloc and beyond. However, the West should realize that they have at this time stepped out of lines of our constitutional texts.
