September 2, 2016 (SSB) — In his August 28th Article, Kuir e Garang Argued that the new South Sudan First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai should first unite Nuer. Nevertheless, Mr. Garang did not elaborate on this claim.

While it is logical that Garang ask Taban to unite Nuer people. Kuir must recognise that Taban is doing just that but on National stage. What sort of unity is Mr. Garang demanding of FVP than renunciation of violence? Calling peace among South Sudanese people does not exclude Nuer, does it?

Although Mr. Garang laments tribalism within ruling party, could he ironically be guilty of the same? Asking Taban to unite Nuer first could simply be interpreted as categorically seeing Taban as Nuer ethnic member than he is south Sudanese national. This perception place Mr. Garang in the same category to which he does not claim to be a part.

On the other hand, Kuir may be in actual sense promoting the defunct FVP Dr. Riek Machar. As seen in his pictorial title Riek vs Taban. Mr. Garang is subliminally comparing the two individuals favouring Machar, by directing his rhetoric against Taban.

Garang slammed Taban appointment as a sinister scheme. Calling a procedurally based nomination as sinister is both dishonest and deceptive to the public. According to Article 6.4 of ARCISS; it isays, In the event the position of the FVP fall vacant during the transitional period, a successor must be nominated by South Sudan Armed Opposition (in this case SPLM IO) within 48 hours. The Successor must serve to the end of the transition period, contrary to Kuir claim of Taban as “Riek postion-holder”. Could Mr. Garang highlight the public on his claim?

What is sinister about following procedure? Is he it what you aspire Mr. Garang? Constitutional Governance…..

Mr. Garang also claimed that Taban assumed Riek’s position as a place-holder only to find the temptation of power too SWEET to leave. Where in the ARCISS document has it reference to a place holder. The article (Aug 28) clarifies Mr. Garang position, as a supporter of Dr. Riek Machar or just individual against peace in South Sudan.

While Kuir acknowledged the FVP renunciation of violence and his positive working relationship with the president, he contradicted himself claiming the work as a dilemma to IGAD.

In his conclusion, Mr. argued that Taban is only making thing worse. How is the FVP making thing worse Mr. Garang?
