The world must act now to stop another Rwandan-style genocide in South Sudan
“A tidal wave of Juba regime systematic killings is about to turn into worst genocide in Africa”
By Adhar A. Chol, Australia
March 2, 2017 (SSB) —- The term genocide came to existence first in 1944, it is very specific term. It is Hardly uses, it does refer to violent crime committed against groups with clear intent to destroy their existence. It was a Polish lawyer by the name Raphael Lemkin who coin it in his documenting book of Nazi policies of systematically destroying national and ethnic groups, including the mass murder of European Jews.
He intelligently and handsomely coined the word by combining two words of Greek and Latin; Geno from Greek word for race or tribe and Cide from Latin word for Killing. He intellectually defined Genocide as a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at destruction of essential foundations of the life of national group with aim of annihilating the group themselves.
In the shadow event of the Holocaust in December 9, 1948 with tireless effort from Lemkin himself the United Nations approved the convention on the prevention and punishment of genocide. This convention establishes genocide as international crime, which signatory nations undertake to prevent and punish.
With this understanding the convention on genocide prevention agreed to define crime Geno-Cide as the acts of committing mass murder with intention to destroy in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, tribe or religious group, as such:
- Killing members of the group.
- Causing serious bodily or mental harm to member of the groups.
- Deliberately inflicting on the groups conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.
- Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the groups.
- Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
From the time of coining the term of Genocide and its acceptance, many wars of targeted violence have occurred throughout the world but punishing and preventing genocide remains a tremendous challenge to the world. What we are currently witnessing in South Sudan confirms the definition of convention on the prevention and punishment of genocide in its fullest sense and thus international crime, yet the World and its dynamic organisations which call for prevention and punishment of this mass killing remains to be the audiences and bystanders of this horrible human tragedies.
With Rwandan Genocide anniversary just one month away, an event which only evoke the darkest reflection in our continent and most passionate hope that this African Man Made tragedy may not repeat it ugliest image of destruction in the world newest nation of South Sudan.
The Rwandan Genocide have been hunting Africa and world at large for 23 years with no iota attention given to how a similar genocide could be prevented. African countries blindly continues to nurture and embraces systems which led to 1994 Rwandan Genocide. A related situation is currently being manufactured by Monster Salva Kiir and his evil organisation of Jieng Council of Elders, turncoat Taban Deng and his cohort in our beloved country South Sudan, a country of over two millions martyrs, without their selfless sacrifices the dream of having a nation of our own would have been impossible to contemplate and it is with this fortitude act of selfless we in SPLM/IO bow to bring ultimate liberation to our proud and resilient people of South Sudan.
The United Nations has recently warned of a looming genocide with ethnic cleansing already underway in some parts of the country, in places like Western Bahr El Ghazal, Equatoria and Malakal. There are undeniable evident that Kiir and his corrupted cohort are planning to lunch a military offensive against SPLM/IO Forces this summer in their last attempt to quell and end the rebellious by guns and not by negotiation.
The mass murderer regime of Salva Kiir and turncoat Taban Deng has accorded itself the right to wage war of design upon South Sudanese citizens under a pretext doctrine of ‘Implementing Peace’ which has already collapsed to covers up any evil contingency it chooses. The means of destruction and mass killing are to be unlimited for Kiir and Taban.
South Sudan military expenditures is the largest in the region well above $ 1.8 billion in 2015 while the whole country suffer under a severe economic conditions a fact which is confirmed by a declared famine and all is done in the name of quelling rebellious which is a wild dream and scratches of an empty illiterate military mind. Unbeknown to them is that waiting is their waterloo by our gallant forces of People’s Movement.
Undeniably there have been efforts by IGAD Plus to stop Juba regime from implementing their plan of Genocide which had led to August Compromise Peace Agreement (ARCISS) which came to force in April 2016 after the arrival of Dr. Riek Machar to Juba with no ill intention but to implement the peace in spirit and deeds, but shortly and shockingly, Salva Kiir and his elders of Jieng Council of Elders and turncoat Taban Deng decided to violate it without inch of opposition from the peace guarantors, a shocking fact not only to our proud and resilient people of South Sudan but also to Peace Makers around world. The peace guarantors’ silent to account Kiir and Taban for violating the Peace Agreement is the significant insurance instrument for them to implement their evil genocide plan.
Shortly after Dr. Riek scaped Juba after a failed attempt on his life, Government forces turned to the remanent of SPLM/IO with merciless maiming, killing and rapping whoever they identified to be of Nuer origin or susceptible to be affiliated to SPLM/IO, this evil acts were later extended to the people of Equatoria region for their great sin of allowing Dr. Riek to passed through their region without obstruction.
The probability of destruction soon cannot be realistically estimated, but it is surely too high for any sane person to contemplate with equanimity. While evident indicate the genocide in South Sudan is already inevitable in this summer, remaining with no action to stop another Rwandan Genocide happening in South Sudan is definitely in no uncertain term is a United Nations and human failure to save People of South Sudan.
With this in mind, my people have nowhere to call for help but to turn to their inner strengths, determination and fortitude to stand up and loudly say to Salva Kiir enough is enough. We need our freedom now.
