Why are warmongers not giving Gen. Paul Malong the rest he deserves in exile?
By Lucy Ayak Malek, Nairobi, Kenya
January 6, 2018 (SSB) — In the past 24 hours, a document has been circulating on social media about Gen. Paul Malong allegedly “agreeing with the opposition to topple the government”. Allegedly, a meeting was convened and all covert plans were conveniently spelt out for everybody to hear. The funny thing is that the people who ghost-wrote the false document didn’t even bother to check in with the leadership of the South Sudan Students Union in Kenya. They simply concocted names and put them as signatories to the document.
Well, now the REAL South Sudan Students Union leadership has come out with a press statement refuting the bogus document attributed to their institution. I was truly impressed by their Secretary General Mr. Tito Awen Bol who signed off with his own contact details. That is a genuine person who can be reached at any time and who indicates that he is ready to stand by his statement, unlike the ghost-authors of the bogus document.
Now turning back to the bogus document itself, it’s now clear to everybody that some people within the security agencies are hell-bent on misleading the President and further perpetrating the state of war in our country. It’s these people that continue to spread false information about anyone they feel threatened about.
It’s the same people who worked desperately to portray Gen. Malong as a threat to the government during his house arrest, the same people who heightened tensions in Juba in the runner-up to my husband’s release. They were hoping to scare the President enough so that he can order an attack on my husband’s house, so they could use that pretext to kill him. Thank God the President was not easily fooled.
Now following my husband’s release, the same people now sleep on their toes since they sense a real possibility of the President discovering the falsehoods that led to the misunderstandings with Gen. Malong, and for these war mongers, that’s their worst nightmare. That is why they have gone in overdrive, concocting falsehoods, authoring false documents, even coercing the media to publish their lies. In all this, I must credit the President for he has not taken their lies and that is why their devilish attempts continue to fail.
Instead of using the scarce resources at their disposal to improve the security of our country, they continue to use it to bribe people to frame Gen. Malong as a traitor. But all their attempts have failed thus far. It has only exposed them as haters of peace, as people who will do anything and everything to defeat the peace efforts in our country. It has also exposed their FEAR of Gen. Malong potentially reconciling with the President.
To these detractors, such a reconciliation, which seemed unthinkable a few months ago, is now a real possibility and that is why they are coming out with these bogus utterances. First it was a false article alleging that Gen. Malong ‘wanted to travel to Khartoum to meet other rebel elements’ and that the Sudan embassy denied him the visa.
To that end the Sudan embassy came out and clearly stated that they had not received and/or denied any request from Gen. Malong for a visa to Khartoum. Moments later, the so-called author of the article in the Sudan Tribune came out and exposed them for coercing and bribing him to publish the article.
Now they are at it again. But my question to them is, what makes you think anyone will believe your lies since every attempt is miserably exposed? Have you not heard of the analogy that “you cannot do the same thing repeatedly and expect a different outcome?” You were exposed with the Sudan Tribune article, you have been exposed even this time and you will continue to be exposed. And I say that with confidence because lies that are perpetrated without any grain of truth will always be exposed, that is why am very sure every time you attempt to circulate lies, you will always be exposed. You seem to think that the people of South Sudan are fools, well, shame on you because those people are willing and able to stand up to the truth and expose your lies.
On this note I wish to salute the leadership of the South Sudan Students Union in Kenya, specifically Mr. Tito Awen (the Secretary General) for his swift public statement that has once again exposed the lies of the war mongers. Your silence would have only served to feed into the lies, but with your response, the public now knows that the war mongers will go to the very end of the earth to spread lies. In a desperate bid to frame Gen. Malong, these ill-mannered war mongers will go as far as maligning Madam Rebecca Nyandeng, in complete disregard of her stature in the history of our country. Shame on you!!
To the warring parties, I say we have had enough. War knows no divisions, it affects us all. War knows no tribe, we all suffer its brutality in equal measure. Please, please, let’s revitalize our people’s hopes for peace in their country. Let’s seek to settle our misunderstandings amicably and relive the dream of our liberation struggle. History will remember every one of us for what we did, or did not do. Some people think they can stand on the sidelines while all the horror is being mated on our people, remember “the one thing that enables evil to prevail is for good people to stay silent”
To his Excellency the President and the people of South Sudan, my message, as am sure is the message from my husband, is that our country is tired of war, our people are yearning for peace and Gen. Malong is aware of and appreciates the efforts that the President is undertaking to see peace come to fruition, we all do appreciate the President’s efforts.
Gen. Malong is recovering well here at home and has not had any meetings with any “opposition”. He prays for the success of the President’s peace initiative and any part he can play in the realization of such effort he would gladly offer himself. Gen. Malong, along with the rest of South Sudan, look forward to the day when peace and tranquility will return to our country.
For a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan
