IGAD has got the South Sudan’s conflict really wrong. The problem is not about who should deputize Mr. Kiir and therefore proposing “4 Vice-presidents” becomes a solution. The problem rather is, among the president’s rivals (doesn’t matter which tribe(s) an individual comes from), has enough power of his own/teams up with others to eject president Kiir out of power; as simple as that: This is problem.
It is a “power-struggle” problem within a single party that cannot therefore be addressed by “power-sharing” agreements that IGAD often prescribes and proposes as solutions to the ongoing conflict in South Sudan. IGAD and its donor countries, it should be observed, are in fact, themselves “participants” in the ongoing South Sudan’s conflict.
The so-called “Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (TGONU)” is in fact another ploy aimed at subverting Salva Kiir’s presidency and again causes much damage to the Dinka people and South Sudan in the same way that the J-1 incidence happened in 2016.
