Comrade Mahmoud Solomon Agok Deserves to be the Governor of Lakes State

Thursday, February 27, 2020 (PW) — The prediction indicated, Mahmoud Solomon Agok will be appointed as Governor of Lakes State in the upcoming government in Feb 2020. Based on the political derivative, none of the Belle son or daughter has ever held senior political or Administrative positions since the reign of former Lakes District in 1973.

Lakes District was then comprised of Rumbek, Tonj and Yirol. Since the time then, Dinka were and are still majority and all had chance in Leadership positions. In the period of Lakes State, Belle did not yet had chance to lead in position of Governorship, Deputy or Speaker. Equally, they never held Ministerial positions in the National government in Juba to represent Lakes State. 

Yirol did not lead Lakes State in Governorship position but Kulang Mabor represented them as Commissioner of Bahr el Ghazal Province, Telar Riing Deng as caretaker Governor of Lakes State, Legal Advisor to President and Head of Mission to Russia and Deng Athorbei as National Minister of Finance & Planning in two (02) different terms respectively.  Therefore, something is better than never if we can call this government inclusive in nature. 

Now, is a time for Belle Community to lead us in Lakes State. Belle has only one County (Wulu) out of eight (08) Counties. This implies that, Belle minority is equivalent to 12.5% of Lakes State power sharing and Dinka majority with 87.5%. This is now a time to consider minority rights to lead the majority. Belle is located in Lakes State and one of the 64 tribes distinct from Dinka in language and culture. 

Why Mahmoud Solomon Agok?

In this critical time of peace implementation and security stabilization, Mahmoud Solomon is the most preferred Leader in Lakes State based on the reasons mentioned hereunder:

1. Neutrality and Impartiality. Comrade Mahmoud will play very neutral and impartial roles in the communal politics of Lakes State. He will not side with any particular Community base on interests but will fairly serve us equally without distinction and discrimination. 

2. None corrupt behavior. He is fair, transparent and accountable person who can manage public resources without mistrust. 

3. Administrator and Diplomat. He professionally and diplomatically prepared in managing public Affairs without confusion. He respects opinions and job descriptions of his subordinates and other Civil servants. He does not interfere or intimidate others. This one of the good qualities needed. 

4. Disarmament Process. Now the Lakes is one State, he will be able to disarmed the whole Civil populations without fear of attacks from other neighboring communities from either Rumbek, Yirol or Gok respectively. 

5. Upholding the Constitution and respect the Rule of Law. Comrade Mahmoud is somebody who cannot attempt to bend the Constitution or Rule of Law towards his own interests and favour of his own Community, relatives, friends and in-laws. He can work in full cooperation with the Assembly, Judiciary and other Law Enforcement Agencies to restore permanent peace, security and Stability for the people of Lakes State.

6. Influential in Nature. Mahmoud has natural ability and power to influence other communities to stop or Joint peace process. Thus, he will combat communal conflicts, revenge killings and cattle thefts. He will also stop road ambushes and highways robberies among others.

7. Eliminate all roadblocks. He will work with Organized Forces to totally eliminate roadblocks across the entire Lakes State. Passengers have been complaining of multiple roadblocks and none compliance with Presidential Order banning all roadblocks throughout the Country. 

8. Development Agenda. In my experience of his positive leadership since his appointment Governor of the former Western state last year 2019, Mahmoud managed to build new Radio and TV Studios at 98.0 Radio Station. He provided new radio instruments and Internet connections to all public offices, which has never been there before. Thus, Lakes State will have modern Radio Station and most reliable Internet connections. Congratulations new government of Lakes State for operating an E-Office in Rumbek.

9. Rumbek Power Station. Mahmoud during his time as Governor of Western Lakes State has worked so hard and has achieved so far 95% on Rumbek Power Station renovations. If he returns as Governor, it will be merciful blessings for Lakes State to experience Developmental activities in all its locations. 

10. Appropriate Power Sharing. Mahmoud will appropriately distribute government and resources to communities of Lakes State equally. He is Nationalist and patriotic leader who can includes other political parties into his government to reflect inclusiveness. 

11. Civil Servants’ Salaries and Incentives. Mahmoud respect financial Principles and cannot temper with Civil Servants’ Salaries and Incentives. For instance, during his time as Governor of Western Lakes State, he approved salary increments of all civil servants. School Teachers have been facing issues of deductions of their Impacts Money (Capitation Grants) that comes as donations from UK Government through European Union before his appointment in 2019. When he came into power, he immediately put an end to such corruption once and for all.

12. Accessible, open and very welcoming. Comrade Mahmoud is always accessible to every citizen including people with disabilities irrespective of their political affiliations, geographical and social backgrounds. He is open and so welcoming to everyone. This is attributed as best quality of leadership.

However, Comrade Mahmoud Solomon Agok has all Leadership’s Qualities qualifying him to lead as Governor of Lakes State without doubt given his high level of Education.
