IGAD provides $100,000 to the High-Level Taskforce on COVID-19 in South Sudan

PRESS STATEMENT: IGAD Staff provides financial support to the High-Level Taskforce on COVID-19 in South Sudan

Tuesday, April 7, 2020 (PW) — In support of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) today contributed to the High Level Task-Force on coronavirus (COVID-19) in South Sudan.

An IGAD Staff financial contribution of 100,000 USD an equivalent of 16,210,780 SSP, was handed to his Excellency Dr. Riek Machar Teny, Chairman of the High-Level Taskforce and Hon. Elizabeth Acuei Yol, Minister for Health by Amb. Tesfaye Negassa, Head of IGAD Liaison Office in South Sudan and Maj Gen. Teshome Gemechu Aderie, CTSAMVM Chairperson who represented Amb. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, IGAD Executive Secretary. 

Dr. Riek Machar thanked IGAD for supporting the Taskforce, adding that the contribution will be used for creating awareness campaigns across the country. IGAD recognizes the importance of joining hands with the R-TGoNU to fight the pandemic that is threatening the lives of South Sudanese and the world at large. 

Amb. Tesfaye said that IGAD will continue to support the government in the fight against COVID-19 in addition to monitoring and ensuring the implementation of the peace process.
