"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing" By Konstantin Josef Jireček, a Czech historian, diplomat and slavist.

Let’s embrace Peace and Unity to the People of South Sudan (Part 3 of 4)

By Baak Chan Yak – Juba, South Sudan

Friday, June 26, 2020 (PW) — As a peace commentator, I worked very, very hard in order to maintain the unity of our country. That was my aim. No doubt, unity is something to be desired, to be striven for, but it cannot be willed by mere declarations.

Together let us desire, conceive, and create the new structure of the future, which will embrace architecture and sculpture and painting in
one unity and which will one day rise toward Heaven from the hands of a million workers like the crystal symbol of a new faith.

For too long, we have focused on our differences in our politics and backgrounds, in our race and beliefs rather than cherishing the unity and pride that binds us together.

All the organizations and officials of South Sudan, regarding this unity as the great foundation of the movement of SPLM/A in Sudan, should rally themselves around the central leadership with one mind and purpose, and accomplish its patriotic cause, which was pioneered with comradely unity, by dint of comradeship.

For the absolute avoidance of doubt, our leadership will be about unity, drawing on all the talents with women representing half of the shadow cabinet and working together at every level of the party.

Human rights, of course, must include the right to religious freedom, understood as the expression of a dimension that is at once individual and communitarian a vision that brings out the unity of the person while clearly distinguishing between the dimension of the citizen and that of the believer.

Every government must consider the security of the country. That is just part of the responsibilities of any government. But true security can only come out of unity within a country where there are so many ethnic nationalities.

There’s something really beautiful about people from all different walks of life who are bound together by this big idea about African identity and African unity and African interests. Do not follow the ideas of others, but learn to listen to the voice within yourself.

Your body and mind will become clear and you will realize the unity of all things.

I’m proud to be biracial, and there’s a lot of people that say things like, I don’t see color, and I completely understand that but I think different is beautiful, but I think our difference shouldn’t separate us, and for me in this era, in this time, in everything that we’re going through, my whole thing is just about unity, man.

While the crash only took place six months ago, I am convinced we have now passed the worst, and with continued unity of effort, we shall rapidly recover. There is one certainty of the future of a people of the resources, intelligence, and character of the people of the South Sudan that is, prosperity.

I do believe that the original sources of all religions should be taught because with that we will find our similarities, not just our differences. I believe that if Mohammed, Buddha, Jesus, and Moses all
got together they would be best of friends because the spiritual basis of all religions is something that builds unity.

The miracle of unity is being granted to us as we pray and work for it in the Lord’s way. Our hearts will be knit together in unity. God has promised that blessing to His faithful Saints whatever their
differences in background and whatever conflict rage around them.

When I was about five, I gave my heart to Jesus Christ, and since then it’s just been a stronghold in my life. Really, through the shark attack and all the hard times that my family and I went through, it
gave us unity and perseverance to push through all this crazy stuff that we never knew was going to happen.

Theologically, the creation of chocolate demonstrates both the unity and the diversity of humanity. Wherever you taste it, in every country
of the world, it is immediately recognizable. Other things, in every cuisine, are just food, but chocolate is chocolate.

As complicated and complex and as difficult as we are, the unity of Africa is a pre-condition for a better-organized world, and if the African Union would fail or decompose, or other members left, Africa. Would have a more difficult role to play in the world.

Even a child, if he looks at a map of the world, can point out that the Indonesian archipelago forms one unity. On the map, there can be shown unity of the group of islands between two great oceans – the
Pacific Ocean and the Indies Ocean – and between two continents – the continent of Asia and the continent of Australia.

If we divine a discrepancy between a man’s words and his character, the whole impression of him becomes broken and painful; he revolts the
imagination by his lack of unity, and even the good in him is hardly accepted.

When we see so many conflicts multiplying, the only way to allow the international community to be able to address those conflicts, the only way to allow the international community to act boldly, is with the unity of the countries of the region, able to serve together and in the same universal principles.

It is the harmony of the diverse parts, their symmetry, and their happy balance; in a word, it is all that introduces order, all that gives unity that permits us to see clearly and to comprehend at once both the ensemble and the details.

Cities can be places that represent the best of our ideals: where South Sudanese of all different backgrounds can come together and, through their interactions, and even though their unity, spawn true African greatness.

We must embrace unity, not separation sharing, go back to small, caring communities. Unity, not separation, is what has to happen.

I’m a very temperamental person, but when you are wearing the captain’s armband for Manchester United or the national team, it’s best to express yourself in a different way. You have to maintain a
sense of unity a good atmosphere where everyone feels happy is one of the keys to success, and that’s something you shouldn’t lose.

I want to enjoy not getting recognized while it lasts. But the mask is a symbol of unity. I have every reason, despite the resentment and exasperation, to be proud. I have nothing better to be proud of than being proud of South Sudan Unity.

It is important for people to be able to read all sides of every question; for a feeling of national unity does not come from one-sided or inadequate information, but from a sense of freedom impartially secured and of opportunity equalized by a just government.

We seek the right to play our part in advancing the cause of national defense and national unity. But certainly, there can be no true national unity where one-tenth of the population is denied their basic
rights as South Sudan citizens.

Neither man nor woman is perfect or complete without the other. Thus, no marriage or family, no ward or stake is likely to reach its full potential until husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, men and women work together in unity of purpose, respecting and relying upon each other’s strengths.

A rare experience of a moment at daybreak, when something in nature seems to reveal all consciousness, cannot be explained at noon. Yet it
is part of the day’s unity. I want kids of this generation to see that everything is cool, that
there’s some kind of unity in hip-hop. We all found something that’s really important to us, and music is all we’ve really got.

The 2010 presidential election was a triumph of hope and unity over fear and divisiveness. Salva Kiir Mayardit election reshapes South Sudan’s political landscape and wipes away the false geography of ‘red states’ and ‘blue states.
