We salute our martyrs

By Ater Garang Ariath, Aweil, South Sudan

Friday, July 30, 2021 (PW) — First and foremost, what we can do today to honour our martyrs, especially patriotic South Sudanese who lack anything, like of financial and materials at their disposals to rally support around families of our martyrs, embracing their sons and daughters and comforting their parents and spouses: offer a prayer.

In the name of our beloved country, we are proud of them and they will remain the source of dignity, glory and a beacon for South Sudanese generations, and their families and children will receive from us a minute of silent prayers, full hearts care and attention.

As South Sudanese, no matter where you are or what you are doing at 6:00 PM, reconstituted South Sudanese local time today, join the rest of the country in observing a minute of silent prayer for our martyrs.

An independent South Sudan forged its way into existence through meticulous planning and hard work and unceasing sacrifices, congratulations to ourselves.

Today, the whole nation from our leaders like of H.E. President of Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit along with reconstituted government of Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity ( R-TGONU) at all levels to proud South Sudanese citizens and expatriate residents hold its high while remembering the courage, bravery and glory of our departed heroes and heroines.

We reiterate our promise to continue the job that Dr. John Garang De Mabior and his millions of colleagues martyr began. This is a challenge to us and legacy to us too, if we embrace a new phase in the drive for the total reconstruction of diverse South Sudan, we equally belong.

It is a pride for us as South Sudanese young and old to witness the honoring of martyrs in recognition of their momentous sacrifices and acts of patriotism as they reflect an immortal example of national unity and belonging.

The highest sacrifice to make for your country is to generously sacrifice your soul, which is truly exemplified by our martyrs, like of Kerubibo Kuanyin Bol, William Deng Nhial, Aluk Akec Kuol and the rest of their colleagues.

We are proud of them, we are truly proud of our devoted martyrs, they died while pursuing to raise the flag of South Sudan as an independent country.

The rest of living heroes and heroines exactly secured martyrs dream and legitimacy for proclamation of South Sudan independence, of which they wrote with their blood an epic of sacrifice and steadfastness.

We haven’t forgotten them. We never will. They aren’t gone. The blood they shed, the lives they sacrificed pulsate in our hearts every moment as South Sudanese.

Finally, I wish the leadership, the SPLM leadership, which is the party, is the rallying point of our political activity, without our party there would be no force through which to focus the needs and desire of our masses as South Sudanese political elites.

We need to see a nation, that values the precious sacrifices of its people,  a nation that bestows upon its martyrs the highest order of honour.
