Letter of Dissatisfaction to President Kiir: Why are Luacjang Dinka Community elders being neglected by the Government of President Salva Kiir?

By Monychol Kulong, Kuajok, Warrap State, South Sudan

Saturday, 01 June 2024 (PW) — Your Excellency, I am writing to bring your attention and express my dissatisfaction with your leadership for not honoring Luacjang Dinka Community elders. As a concerned citizen of the Luacjang community, I wonder why the government is neglecting them without honoring them like others.

First, allow me with utmost pleasure and joy to take this greatest golden opportunity to appreciate you for always trying day and night to bring peace to the People of South Sudan. The Luacjang community is committed to implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

Other political parties are highly respected due to your honour and love within the community; though SPLM has the strongest base in my community, we accepted giving Tonj East County administration to other political parties based on agreement demand.

We said it was done by our father (Salva Kiir), and he trusted us. He knows very well that no one will change or brainwash us away from SPLM. And that is natural in us; if we accept a person, no one can break or separate that bond. The coming election will prove that.

Your Excellency, I sat down and wrote this article not just to show my writing skills but to show something I observed in you. We Luacjang people don’t pretend that something isn’t going well. We have to call a spade “a spade” not “a big spoon”. Also, allow me to quote Prof. K’s song “kak Junub a koc riec ta luel yic, koc a aguac.” If my writing or article is taken out of context. I have to say the truth because for you to address it.

Your Excellency, the Luacjang people are not new to you, and they do not need to be introduced to you. But I commonly wonder why you don’t show them love whenever they are in dire need. I wouldn’t go to politics, where we have held only three (3) seats in your government since independence.

The first was the Director of Operation by both Gen. Francis Marial Abur and Gen. Mathew Mathiang Magordit in South Sudan Police Services. The second was the Former Governor of Tonj defunct State. Those are the highest seats Luacjang sons held. Anyway, this isn’t my main reason for writing or why we aren’t in the national cake sharing or nation building.

Your Excellency, it is commonly believed that even your most foe can pretend in your death. Say a word of condolences and cry with people during that day. I have counted Luacjang elders, and you never have a message of condolences while you know them very well. The first was HON. MABIOR LIAPWEL, it was zero.

I said you might have been busy and committed to other national affairs. Then, USTAZ WILFRED RING ADUER followed, but your office remains muted. Finally, the man you called uncle, USTAZ HON. IRENO YAI MUM passed away, and not a single word by phone to the family you are part of; this is an uncle to your friend Marek Kur Mum.

These are all liberators who need to be honoured. We didn’t backstab SPLM/A during the liberation war. Even you are witness to the INTAFAIDA BATTALION. If not two-thirds, then Luacjang alone was half of that Division. Apart from millions of resources, we contributed.

Additionally, SABINO MAKANA AKOL, the man who surveyed Kuajok and did many great things in Warrap State, is down in bed and has no support medically; he is struggling with his kids, currently forgetting what he did.

Your Excellency, I’m defeated by your silence. It raises millions of questions in my mind. This forces me to make many inquiries in terms of political and social in the past because I do hear good memories you had shared with us commonly. But still, I have to be cautious; WHAT HAVE LUACJANG ELDERS DONE AGAINST YOU REALLY?

I formed opinions about guesting. Could it be because of your defeat at the battle of Kurmuk by Arab Forces because the leading Commander by then was Gen. Deng Marol from Luacjang on the side of Sudan Army Forces in 1988? But still, you were with three gallant officers from Luacjang on your side, led by Mathiang Magor, Mathiang Wuny & Mathiang Majur, Achien Bol Awer, and many more soldiers who played their noble role in rescuing you, and we are happy you survived.

The second guest, could it be because in 1997, Dr. John Garang de Mabior visited Paliang in Luacjang instead of Akon in Awan-Chan? From the initial plan, you were going to Akon, but after reaching Thiet, the plan changed, which didn’t go as planned. That wasn’t our fault, Mr. President, but the leadership’s because there was propaganda against Luacjang, that Luacjang doesn’t need SPLA in her areas.

So, Dr. John Garang wanted to confirm the reality as those of Gen. Pagan Amum & Gen. Malok Aleng reported back, “All reports being levelled against Luacjang are lies”. They were astonished at how well they were received in Luacjang with the joyful hospitality they got.

The third guest, could your anger against Luacjang community elders be because, during the 2010 election campaign in Romic, some of our chiefs sang provoking warrior songs against Rek people, not particularly about you?

When I looked at all of these, I thought they were imaginations or guesting opinions because we don’t have the really concrete issues to mention that were done intentionally to hurt you so that you could seek revenge. We, as the Luacjang, are really sorry in case we caused some unintended harm that has caused this enormous pain and suffering we have gone through as of now.

Your Excellency, sometimes we Luacjang youth can sit and brainstorm the root causes of mistreatment in your leadership. Can you see the trauma you put in us? We stood with you during your darkness and happiness, but your payback is so tiny. How many Luacjang sons died in the 2013 and 2016 crises? I’m still wondering: WHY ARE OUR ELDERS NOT BEING HONORED?

I believe it is crucial to address such loopholes or leakages for the well-being of our nation. Your Excellency, you are seeing us sitting comfortably at the upper part of the body but down; there are ANTS EATING US. Don’t be surprised soon to see us limping socially, politically, economically. I think we will change cultural norms. Maybe they are sources of these.

It is our belief that you should not visit anyhow if it is commonly an hour of servicing food in another house so that you can be called to join the table. In cattle camp life, the cow that makes a lot of noise is milked first, while silent ones are milked afterwards. I think our silence, assuming you know us, isn’t working for our interest as Luacjang community.

Thank you if you can pay attention to this matter of my dissatisfaction.

Your Excellency, I really wish to APOLOGIZE to you personally in case there are other reasons I have failed to mention; we are very much in eager mode to hear because you are our son, our president, our hero who is godly placed to address our chronicle issues.

I can attest to you that we will never deviate from the Mighty SPLM AND YOU, YOUR EXCELLENCY.
