R.I.P Gen. Bior-Asuod Ajang Duot: The Scion of Liberation Struggle in South Sudan
This poem pays tribute to the life and legacy of Gen Bior-Asuot Ajang Duot, using the imagery of the Saddle-billed Stork to convey the sudden and profound impact of his passing on his Twic Dinka community of which he was the community chairperson.
Tongkheer has fallen; Arialbeek has descended,
Twic Dinka is orphaned, their leader lamented.
Like the Saddle-billed Stork, soaring high in the sky,
A beacon of strength with his wings spread wide,
Majestic and proud, he graced the heavens above,
A symbol of courage, resilience, and love.
Gen Bior-Asuot Ajang Duot, our guiding light,
Has departed too soon, from the peak of his flight.
In the dawn of his years, he fought for our land,
A warrior in spirit, with a noble command.
He carried the hopes of his people so dear,
Through the shadows of conflict, through bloodshed and fear.
He soared through the trials, on the wings of our dreams,
The SPLM/SPLA struggle, in his heart it gleams.
For independence, he toiled, for our freedom he fought, the scion of the liberation struggle.
Now the skies are dimmed, with the absence he wrought.
Tongkheer has fallen; Arialbeek has descended,
His legacy lingers, in hearts it is tended.
Though Twic Dinka mourns, in sorrow we stand,
United in grief, we remember his hand.
As the sun sets low, and the night draws near,
We cherish his memory, so vivid, so clear.
A veteran of war, a hero unsung,
His spirit lives on, in the stories and songs, the scion of the liberation struggle.
Twic Dinka is orphaned, but together we’ll rise,
With the courage he taught us, we’ll reach for the skies.
For Gen Bior-Asuot, we’ll carry the flame,
Of justice, of peace, and honor his name.
In living memory of the scion of the liberation struggle in South Sudan.
