Press Statement, Office of the Former Vice President for Economic Cluster
Republic of South Sudan

For Immediate Release, Juba, South Sudan

Saturday, 15 February 2025 (PW) — The Office of H.E. Prof. James Wani Igga, Former Vice President of the Republic and Chairman of the Economic Cluster, wishes to clarify that he has not issued any official statement regarding his appointment as the SPLM Secretary General.

Prof. Wani Igga fully accepts his removal from the position of Vice President as part of the normal governmental restructuring process, which is a common practice in governments worldwide. H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, is exercising his constitutional mandate in making these changes.

The appointment within the party structure should not be misconstrued as a demotion or promotion. It is instead a matter of party discipline, commitment, and obedience—hallmarks of a true and well-trained political cadre. As of now, Former Vice President Prof. Wani Igga remains the SPLM First Deputy Chairman and SPLM Secretary General Designate.

An official statement regarding his new role will be issued following a formal meeting of the SPLM leadership.

The public is hereby urged to disregard any misleading information circulating on social media. Such false and fabricated reports are intended to sow discord, create division, and undermine the prevailing peace and stability in the country.
