EVERY DOG HAS ITS OWN DAY: AN ANALYSIS OF RIEK, PAGAN, DENG AND NYANDENG’S PRESS CONFERENCE.

Despite being a political graduated with ambition to pursue political career if God allows me, I have been very naive and optimistic about pointing my fingers or sticking my nose on political issues however this press conference has open me a place to pinpoint my figures where I think they fit. As Kuir Garang stated on his previous writings that “writers are not meant to please you in daily basis, they may please you now and disappointed you later”. TRUE. To clear it out I do not consider myself as a writer rather a local women crying to be heard. In this point it might sound more like a feminist calling so let me call myself a local woman whispering a gossip since it whats my gender mates are known for. Still speaking, my writing might not be like of experts like John Pen Ngong, Kuir Garang or Tearz Ayuen and therefore expect some disappointment. I also ask you to be open minded when you get disappointed because I am just a WOMAN.
As Dinka stated ‘Killed a Rhino with his/her own skin’ in other way “Rou aye nok ne del de” I have used the above mentioned figures’s words to form a thesis of this article.
FROM THIER VERY OWN PAPER GOES A STATEMENT “THE ANTI GARANG ELEMENT INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE SPLM ENCIRCLED COMRADE SALVA KIIR MAYARDIT’S LEADERSHIP OF THE SPLM AND THE GOVERNMENT OF SOUTHERN SUDAN” This statement should be “THE ANTI- PAGAN, DENG ALOR, RIEK AND NYANDENG OR THE ANTI US……..” Since July the 30th 2005 many people have express their concern about the repositioning of SPLM Objectives I should call. Instead of advocating it with due respect to the party they privatised and branded it as lost vision of Garang.
Well Garang would have come with the idea but lets not forget that there is no such personal idea in politic especially when its something to do with the political party of which the individual belong to. We often failed to acknowledge the power of language of politic in our daily basis, and this is where we messed it up. In order to win the heart of other figures within the SPLM PARTY Riek and his followers should have not used such term like ANTI GARANG for two reason. 1 the term downplay the reason Nyandeng joined the three SPLM political figures. Although Nyandeng has her political goal of making change within SPLM the whole situation sound like shes taking a step because Garang’s vision has been dumbed. Meaning Nyandeng has no political strategy rather the proclaimed vision.
2. Using Anti Garang term does not really fit in post-Garang era and is somehow dismantling his. credibility and his legacy. After reading comment and articles about his vision it gets to the point that we have NO clue on how to carry significant figures’s Legacy. Riek should not be criticizing their own party using the decease name rather constructing their own argument. We understand how hard it could be even for a son to act exactly like his father due to the reason that each and every individual got his or her own way of doing thing especially things that are dictate by the environment and situation. Lossing Garang’s vision should not be shouldered to one individual not even the current government but to the cause of his death.
Personally I think its only himself Garang that could possibly make this vision possible. The reason is that when he came up with such strategy he personally knew how to reach the dealt plus his strategies were benefiting from his popularity and of course his brain and importantly the situation at hand. Out of many we individually got influence or inspired through his hard work and determination and its up to us to use this inspiration in our own ways. My argument in this point is that using Garang’s term is doing more harms than good. Its takes his legacy to the personal level where some individuals are using it to open their career path.
Secondly Riek and his team stated that ‘WE WANT TO BRINGS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE MASSES OF OUR PEOPLE THAT GENERAL SALVA KIIR HAS SURRENDER THE SPLM POWER TO OPPORTUNISTS AND FORIEGN AGENTS. THESE ACTION UNDERMINE THE HARD WON INDEPENDENCE AND SOVEIRENGTY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH SUDAN” surrendering power to opportunists and foreign agents had NO connection with sovereignty of the country. This is because what matter in the international system is state and therefore the present of Foreign agents in the state should not be considered as an abuse of state sovereignty rather those agents should be classify based on their occupation in the country for example either business men or activists.
In my point of view Riek and his team are abusing political terms. Sovereignty of the state is said to be only abuse when other state is involved in other sovereign state affairs but not when individuals are involved in other state affairs. Its only state that are main actors in the international system.
Second point is that independence was not worn for SPLM to stay on power rather for other individuals to have the opportunity to use their talent including political talent.
Their last statement stated that THE GOVERNMENT OF SOUTH SUDAN IS MISLEADING THE PUBLIC THAT ITS SERVICING THE 4.5 DEBT IT IS NOT KNOWN WHERE THESE MONIES WERE LOANED FROM AND ON WHAT THEY WERE SPENT AS THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN UNDER AUSTERITY REGIME SINCE APRIL (2012). Sincerely I don’t know to whom is this statement. Who are the government and who were the government in 2012? Riek himself was the vice president. Nyandeng was advisor to the president. Deng Alor was minister of regional affairs and Pagan was minister of Comprehensive peace agreement. comprising of these was the government in 2012 and now still. So which government are these four elements accusing of monies-stealing?
To make it short it surprises me that this was the press conference the world was waiting. Whats the meaning of bad-talking SPLM while still a member?. I was expecting an announcement of new opposition party in a collision with other opposition for 2015 election.
