Dr. Lual Achuek: “politically naive Neanderthals”

Please, read the attached proposal of Ebony Center of Dr. Lual Acuek. I laughed for one hour after reading it because the document was written by people from a different planet. The document argues that the interim government should be ruled by five rotational technocrats who are not politicians for a period of three years.

The document assumes that the political parties in South Sudan and the rebels will agree with the arrangement and the proposal that five technocrats should be the ones to lead the transitional government.

I want the readers to forgive me for calling the authors of the document “politically naive Neanderthals”. I know it is disrespectful to use that phrase but I don’t have a choice because the intellectual laziness of the authors could lead one to call them as such. Somebody who has an active brain should ask the question below:

HOW COULD POLITICIANS IN NEGOTIATION IN ADDIS ABABA SIGN AN AGREEMENT THAT EXCLUDES THEM IN THE INTERIM GOVERNMENT?

There is no politician in modern times who can sign an agreement to exclude himself from the government in Africa. The Ebony’s paper assumes that the rebels, the government and all the parties in South Sudan would agree to give power to Lual Acuek Deng and his colleagues willingly in Addis Ababa.

Lual Acuek is really an economist who has not understood the fundamental principles of practical politics, which is governed by laws rooted in human nature. In the history of Sudan, the government of TECHNOCRATS was formed after 1964 revolution which dissolved the government and ushered in a new era.

The only way for Lual Acuek’s government of TECHNOCRATS to take place is when he and his colleagues overthrow President Kiir and the rebels and form their own government. But assuming that the government of South Sudan and the rebels would agree in Addis to sign a document that excludes them from interim arrangement is something unheard of and only primary students would propose that because it is a political joke.

I thought before that Lual Acuek was a smart guy. But reading this document, I came to conclusion that the man is a political Neanderthal. There is no politician on earth who can sign an agreement to fire himself and give power to so-called TECHNOCRATS. If such a thing happens, then, it would be a joke of the 21st Century.

Lual Acuek has been working since 2011 to remove President Kiir’s Government

I want to say that Lual Acuek Deng is always a Neanderthal from a different planet because he proposes things which are not practically possible. Contrary to his supporters, the man is a lazy thinker like Riek Machar who cannot address the realities head on.

If you remember, it is the same Lual Acuek who campaigned for unity in 2010 and 2011. I am surprised that his supporters would describe him as a “professional economist” because if you read his book, he claimed to be ” a student of John Garang”. You can read some of the paragraphs of Lual’s book calling for a divine intervention for the removal of Salva Kiir.

If Lual Acuek is ” a student of John Garang” and not a cattle-camp supporter, would Garang accept his paper to relinquish power to TECHNOCRATS? We all know Garang was a military dictator with uncompromising attitude. Given the character of Garang that we know, will he sign an agreement to give power to TECHNOCRATS during the interim period after Riek Machar attempted a coup?

Let’s be brutally honest with ourselves because it is a fact that Salva Kiir is a democrat unlike John Garang who would put you in jail for proposing something different from him. From practical point of view, how would Salva Kiir who was elected by 98% of South Sudanese give power to UNELECTED TECHNOCRATS proposed by Lual Acuek because Riek Machar attempted a coup?

I think people will agree with me that if Lual Acuek proposed his government of TECHNOCRATS while John Garang is the President of South Sudan, he would find himself in jail like Martin Majier Gai. The character of John Garang that we know dictates any reasonable person to reach that conclusion. Lual Acuek called himself “a student of John Garang” in his book but he doesn’t know that the real Garang would shoot him for proposing such an interim arrangement.

For those who don’t know the political conspiracy behind the proposal, Lual Acuek has been working since 2011 to find a way for the removal of what he called “Bhar-el-Ghazal government”. He is one of those who actually advised Riek Machar to run against President Kiir in the name of Greater Upper Nile unity. If people can be taken to ICC for the destruction in Bor, Lual is one of Dinka Bor elders who pushed Riek Machar to start a war between the people of Greater Upper Nile and Greater Bhar-el-Ghazal.

The ideas of the document are not new. But they are a smokescreen to remove what Lual and others called “Bhar-el-Ghazal government”. I am active in South Sudan politics and I cannot be deceived by the “student of John Garang”.

What I don’t like about you people sometimes is because you are impractical. You asked me many times to give an alternative solution to resolve the conflict if I reject the position paper you and Lual Acuek presented.

I said it many times in this forum that the solution to resolve the current crisis that I put on the table is AK-47. I thought I made myself abundantly clear to everyone since December, 16, 2013.

I don’t blame you for not knowing the role I played to defeat Riek Machar in Nuerland. I sent three people from the Diaspora to South Sudan to talk to Nuer chiefs to disown violence. I set up a committee of Nuer in the Diaspora that talk to leaders of the White Army every week to stop fighting the government.

The capture of Ulang, Nasir, Mathiang, Jekow and Mangok was possible because of the work we the Nuer in the government did. We sent politicians, MPs and people from Diaspora to Nuerland to convince our people not to fight the government. Our collective work we the Nuer in the government reversed the tide of the war.

I don’t think Lual Acuek Deng played the role I did in this crisis to save South Sudan. Imagined if we the Nuer who are now with President Kiir joined the rebellion, what would be the military situation and insecurity in our country?

While Lual Acuek is conspiring to remove Salva Kiir, I work 24/7 to convince the Nuer not to fight the government. What capacity do you and Lual Acuek have to persuade the Nuer rebels not to fight the government?

I have a capacity to persuade my Nuer people to stop violence. But Lual Acuek has no leverage because there are no Twi Dinka fighting the government. The only one from Twi who is a rebel is Mabior Garang but he is talking in hotel in Addis.

You need to know that I have a big role to play to stabilize South Sudan because the people Riek Machar is using are Nuer. I am ten times more important than Lual Acuek in saving South Sudan. You need to acknowledge that.

You need to know that the rebels who are fighting the government are Nuer and the SPLA soldiers fighting to defend the government are also NUER. Mathews Puljang, Johnson Gony, Nhial Batoang, etc who are fighting the rebels in Greater Upper Nile region are not from Greater Bor but Nuer.

From military point of view, I am more important to South Sudan than Lual Acuek Deng. It is me talking to SPLA Nuer 24/7 to defend the government. It is me also talking to leaders of Nuer White Army to stop fighting the government.

I have never heard Lual Acuek talking to Nuer White Army or chiefs not to fight the government. Drinking Johnny Walker in hotel in Juba and writing nonsense would not make Lual Acuek to be more important than me. I am the one dealing with the Nuer not to destroy South Sudan. There are no Twi Dinka in battlefields fighting the government.

I don’t see the contribution that Lual Acuek has done in this war more than me. Imagine if Gordon Buay, Mathews Puljang, Bapiny Monytuil, etc are on the side of the rebels, what would be the situation in South Sudan?

Only a naive person would think that Lual Acuek has contributed more than me in this war. But reasonable South Sudanese would acknowledge that the position I took saved South Sudan from sliding into Somalia.
