Is it how politics works or political madness in South Sudan? Part two (2)

By Simon Yel
John Luk Jok and Dr. Riek Gai Kok
Justice John Luk Jok was Kiir’s right man in Jongelei state and Lou-Nuer community in particular before and after independence of south Sudan . He came from Lou-Nuer community together with Dr. Riek Gai Kok . He worked hard in 2010 elections to see Dr. Gai Riek not going to parliament but Lou-Nuer youth and elders whole-heartedly repudiated an SPLM parliamentary candidate as unworthy to represent them in south Sudan legislative assembly and voted for Riek Gai Kok though Riek Gai was standing on NCP ticket.
John Luk had problem with Dr. Riek Gai Kok on who is to be honoured as the chief shepherd of Lou-Nuer community because communal and regional bases are the main scenes of where politics of south Sudan is being played. John Luk tried his best to make himself the best-boy among president’s good-boys by giving president bundle of powers in the interim constitution to buy president’s happiness to appoint him to the country’s second most top job after independent. John Luk didn’t spare any effort to please the president, he lobbied the MP to pass the interim constitution with some articles that need fervent debate like dissolution of the elected parliament by the president.
He was among the people who had given all the powers to the president not until when Kiir was overloaded then he(Kiir) had to delegate some powers to his vice to help him running other things.  Luk was among Kiir’s good-boys who use to design or form the gov’t . He was once quoted saying that “ if president Kiir appoints Dr. Riek Gai to the cabinet then I will resign “ .Now he is out and Dr. Riek Gai Kok , his chief rival has taken the position out squarely sitting next to the president. The new SPLM recruits as they (disgruntled) claimed to have hijacked the SPLM have become the best boys than old SPLM/A cadres who use to turn against the gov’t and talk trash once they are sacked.
When president sacked all his cabinet including the vice president last year in july, Luk Jok renewed his introspection that has all what it needs to be vice president but unfortunately he found himself out in cabinet and Dr. Riek Gai came in. John Luk was left in disbelief and discombobulated of what kind of political miracles are happening and stupefyingly he has to join leader of the gang of disappointed kicked-in-the-butt victims of Kiir’s decree to try all means of unseating president Kiir .
Now Dr. Riek Gai , the former NCP party leader has become close friend to president more than anybody in Upper Nile region for the role he played before and after crisis .
Dr. Peter Adwok Nyaba and Gen. Gordon Buay
Nyaba was once erstwhile friend to Dr. Riek but parted ways in 1992 when Riek Machar dismissed Dr. Lam in SPLM-United. Nyaba was among the few ministers who love to write opinions out in online newspapers and The Citizen newspaper. He once had perfervid and opprobrious debate with Gordon Buay in January 2011 when president Kiir appointed the constitutional review committee.
For the reference , Gordon Buay wrote article on jan.23.2011 title “  President Salva Kiir’s Decree Violated South-South Dialogue Agreement” questioning the legality of the committee formed by Kiir to review the constitution . Nyaba responded it aggressively the following morning with article title “Pres. Kiir acting within the law”. Adwok defended the president’s decree smartly in his well-articulated brief article.  Adowk joined Riek’s team of decreed out ministers to topple the gov’t when he was sacked in July 2013 .
Gordon Buay was so critical to Kiir regime when he was a chairman of South Sudan Democratic Forum-Canada and he published many articles question the system of governance in south Sudan before and after independence of south Sudan. In April 2013 ,he declared himself as a spokesman for the rebel coalition forces , that is south Sudan Democratic Army(SSDA) and south Sudan Defense force (SSDF) and south Sudan Liberation Army (SSLA) when gov’t granted amnesty . Gordon Buay didn’t fail to snatch himself with a big rank, he made it to Major General.
After successful negotiation with Kiir’s team lead by Telar in Nairobi,  Gov’t gave coalition some general ranks in army and his rank was confirm immediately as Major General. Now he is in and Dr. Peter Adwok Nyaba is out . Gordon Buay is a diplomat now talking applesauce about the rebellion of Dr. Riek that has led to loss of lives and displacement. He prevised the rebellion of Riek in Nov.2011 and published an article in Paanluel.com “ Riek and politics of Ngundengism in south Sudan” .foretelling that Riek and some politicians had mobilized SPLA to oust the president .
Gen. Gier Chuang and Gen. Marial Nuor .
When Gen. Geir was a minister for interior , Gen. Marial was in police service as a head of CID department. Gen. Gier didn’t like Gen Marial and he ganged up against him with other enemies plus the family of the late John Luis the lost engineer to implicate Marial .Marial was suspended and he became under house arrest for months.
President Kiir didn’t intervene for the reason he knows best to himself, he might had been under influence of Gier to stay off case. Marial didn’t lost faith in gov’t as he believed that Kiir didn’t have problem with him personally but he was framed by his enemies who don’t want him in the gov’t.  Marial doesn’t like doing extra duties to win the heart of the Boss in order to buy himself a position but he is a man who can do work very well under little or no supervision when given a work.
He hates politics more than death because of cheating and gossiping .He is among few Generals who are not affiliated to any politicians from their regions but just stick to their military duties. Now he is in charge of country’s military intelligence and Gier Chuang is out.
In conclusion, the politics in south Sudan has changed the real meaning of politics that everyone knows. No one knew even president Kiir himself that the former detainees would opt to have their independent block in Addis peace talk.
The formation of third block by Deng Alor and Pagan wasn’t meant to distant themselves a way from two sides but to drew the support and attention from civil societies and international community as “concerned politicians” who would want to scavenge the country from Kiir and Riek murderous and head the interim gov’t to bring about political reform and reconciliation in the country.

If people talk of political prostitution in this planet then its rate is over 90% in south Sudan.
Here I rest my case.
