President Kiir should not flex his muscle against every South Sudanese

By David Aoloch Bion

The three facts of life President Kiir must know or if he knows them, he should revisit them.

1 You can’t drive two Lorries ago

2 A leader of the people doesn’t flex his muscle against his own people every time there is political complain. If he flexes his muscle against citizen X yesterday, then he must kneel down before citizen Y today so long as he has the legitimacy.

3 A strategist cannot open up more than one front at the same time using the same approach. He varies his approaches. If he uses military approach in situation A, then he can use politic in situation B depending on how the environment dictates the situation.

Last year 2013, the tension began to build around who should be the SPLM presidential candidate in 2015 and the passing into law of the basic documents of the party. The argument went on until at the midsentence, we heard a gun sound on December 15. Anyway that is the history then.

Now, another tension is about to begin or has already begun building up around the word ‘’ federalism’’. The people of Greater Equatoria have expressed their aspiration for federal system of governance. The Equatorians either decided by their own to ask for federalism or were told to decide by some angels from heaven. Two governors Clement Wani of Central Equatoria and Joseph Bakasoro of Western Equatoria have gone public about their demand of federalism.

On the other hand , President Kiir has gone public, with his unjustified claims of the Equatorians were told somewhere by some elements to demand for federalism, and warned the Equatorians ‘’not to talk and not to debate’’ federalism any more. Mr. Kiir warning has angered the Equatorians.

In fact, it was unnecessary for Mr.Kiir to issue further warning because South Sudan is now coming to term with the cost of his past warnings. I hope you understand what I am talking about, the warning ‘’that 1900 will ………’’

Why President Kiir panic about Federalism? Because they (the so-called advisers) tell him, it is going to reduce powers of president Kiir. Is this advice genuine? No not, the United States is federal system. Does it mean that President Obama has powers as the president? Not at all. Let us be logical and rational.

So the current rumour of tension is that the Equatorians are going to rebel against the Government because

1      Their demand for federalism has been rejected by the good for nothing Kiir Mayar.

2      President is planning to sack the governors Clement Wani and Joseph Bakasoro who spoke in favour of federalism like he did to the governors of Lakes and Unity states.

In South Sudan, the rumour is always truth and the truth is always the rumour. If the rumour is that Equatorians are rebelling because ‘’ federalism is rejected and the governors are going to be removed or assassinated or whatever mean they will be got rid of’’

Then President Kiir must take these rumours serious to avoid the situation of last December. He should test his conflict management skills this time round before the situation get out of the hand.

He, president Kiir must know there is a’’ conspiracy against him ’’either inside South Sudan or outside. And for that reason, he will not drive two Lorries at ago. He can’t drive one lorry in Upper Nile and another Lorry in Equatoria at the same time. If he flex his muscle in Upper Nile then he should use politic in Equatoria. He must call a rally and tell the Equatorians that

1 . your quest for federalism is accepted and is subjected to referendum on this date…

2. He should reassure Equatorians, what happened in Lakes and Unity states will not happen.

We want peace not empty pride that we are ……….

Around the world people are proud of science and wealth not war and poverty
