Will re-unification and re-integration of the SPLM factions end the suffering of the people of South Sudan?
Will re-unification and re-integration of the SPLM factions end the suffering of the people or re-ignite it afresh?
By Deu Lueth Ader
March 2, 2015 (SSB) — SPLM factions embarked on re-unification and suggested re-integration of the former SPLM dismissed members leaving aside the issue of the lives of innocent civilians perished in the aftermath of 15 Dec calamity. Southern Sudanese politicians do not laugh easily unless they are promised with the positions; they value positions much more than lives of whom they ruled.
It sounds badly when the so called SPLM factions are engrossing in re-unifying the party while the issue of forfeiting lives is left as if nothing had happened. The SPLM factions should have apologized to the people of South Sudan prior to embark on any process of reunification or reintegration which is currently being initiated by CCM of Tanzania.
It should be noted that the essence of the problem then was who will take the lead in the party; lives of the people of South Sudan are unworthy the way they just perished. The SPLM factions now are engaging in how their factions are reunified after great loss inflicted on the country caused by their dismissal, then why had they been dismissed? Simply in order to subject innocent civilians in that tragedy?
The gruesome killing which had engulfed the Country at the time of crisis is unprecedented in the history of South Sudan. What people were anxiously waiting for was that the perpetrators are tracked down wherever they are whether on the side of rebels or Government and brought to book, this would be the only reward that innocent civilians can enjoy, the reunification of your factions would never yield any fruitful progress but second catastrophe, for your political interests are over peoples’ suffering.
It is the same members who had been dismissed and accused to have waged coup de’ tat that are to be re-integrated back into their positions, and the same elements who alleged to have been fully allegiance to regime that are half-heartedly re-integrating their colleagues into the positions. Hence; the question that any normal living entity can ask is that on whose expenses will they be re-integrated?
And what are the guarantees of not getting back to square one? Because Government will never accommodate all the SPLM factions, for the positions are limited and those who may find themselves in the periphery of power in the proposed Transitional Government would cause another misfortune.
Because what spark-off the previous crisis was known even to non-politicians, as a power struggle within the party, are the re-integrated members persuaded not to contest for some positions any longer according to Arusha Accord? because this is where problem always starts.
If so then this is what can reassure us as citizens that the conflict would not revive anymore but if not then make sure that your immature reunification and reintegration would cause us our innocent lives which you are not care of again.
People of South Sudan should not be so oblivious to follow the realities, there has been a widespread skepticism planted in our hearts by our leaders and we should look in how we combat it and embrace ourselves. Now they are resuming their ex-businesses as SPLM members & Comrades while your lives perished are just crying and are given a deaf ear by all of them.
I might be misquoted by some of those who are negatively touched in this article of being an enemy of peace by criticizing the process of re-unification and reintegration of the former members.
But rather; those who care so much about the suffering that our country might befallen into can quote the author right, for there is a saying that “when elephants fight the grass suffers”.
