Governor Rin Tueny Mabor of Eastern Lakes state

March 12, 2016 (SSB)  —  On behalf of the entire membership of Yirol West Community and on my own behalf I would like to congratulate your Excellency Rin Tueny Mabor Deng for a well-deserved appointment as the first Governor of Eastern Lakes State. While thanking God for his kindness and protection over you throughout the duration of your military career, I also pray to God today to grant you wisdom, knowledge and courage to continue lead our state to desirable heights. Your impressive moral and qualifications confirm you will always succeed in running Eastern Lakes State affairs. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you about our support and willingness to partner with you as the community to ensure the achievement of good governance for all citizens in Eastern Lakes State.

However; the launch of this new model of power devolution in South Sudanese politics comes at a very important time just at the implementation of the Compromise Peace Agreement between GRSS and SPLM in Opposition. I am hereby fill with joy and hope to see health, Education and infrastructural development in Eastern Lakes State being ensured by her daughters and sons with respect to peace and stability.

Taking Government closer to the people in the rural areas would definitely alleviate people’s suffering by bringing basic services to them. It would enhance transparency and accountability as you mentioned during swearing in of the new cabinet, so the SPLM organs at the respective levels of government would have an effective participation in equitable allocation of resources as well as their efficient management which you have mentioned during swearing in of the cabinet.

Another point I would like you to take here is very crucial to you it is what can let you be remembered with your cabinet in the history of Eastern Lakes state forever if you lend us your ears and agree to it; Hon Governor note that Eastern Lakes state did not exist before and since you have become the first ever Governor of this new state, you and your cabinet are accountable to history at its front pages, anything you do will go down in history as it is, whether it is bad or good thing history will not forget it. But to set a good tendency for an environment where citizens can be heard and their ideas implemented you need to model the technique of being an exemplary to others by adhering to and advancing the rights and responsibilities contain in our constitution. You need to show zero tolerance to those who seek to destroy it and initiate a shared vision to make a difference.

From the Darwinian concept of evolution, peaceful living on earth is what every organism toils for. This separation will ultimately defuse tensions created by criminals who operate in the borders of both communities hence a fair way of introducing amicable co-existence in our geographical areas of settlement. This would further more halt rampant cattle rustling and revenge killings which have always been the subject of the day between the territorial boundaries of Yirol West, Yirol East and Rumbek East respectively. Therefore; we youth of Eastern Lakes hope that remaining as three independent States will bring peace among ourselves and will also boom development through competitive advantage. I do appreciate your cooperation with your counterparts for defusing tension on the recent attack organized by Agar youth against Yirol West in the last two days, I think by that day and night you had not slept or rested for the sake of our citizens’ lives…. You’re ‘man of the people’

Honourable Governor, don’t let your gate be open to the gossipers who may exploit you for their individual interests to keep you apart with your potential leaders. Good leaders are those that stick to their promises and therefore they deliver what they promised their people with. In then Lakes Politics, the concepts is always that leaders are made to go off their vision by some individuals whose jobs are to exploit the leaders to the best of their interests please, I would rather advice you  to mind your business and don’t listen to who will tell you to let go your current partial cabinet and persuade you to form the new cabinet even if the threat is that you will not get their support comes 2018 elections, if you perform dramatically it will be people alone who will push you to keep going successfully with flying colours should general elections come in 2018.

Above all, do what made other world leaders to become most successful by so doing all you need are only three things which are:

  1. Listen to your people’s priorities and do what two common men on the street like/want than to do what your two cabinet ministers like.
  2. Be people’s servant than people’s boss.
  3. Offer security to the people and allow freedom of expression.

As a leader it is easy to be out of touch with people and their essential needs regardless of whatever the efforts you might put to avail yourself to them in this respects, people near you will rise to that opportunity and usually they may lie to you about what people think about your administration in an attempt to win your trust and favour and be seen as your most loyalist. I kindly suggest you to create a direct link with people without mediators in between and this will let you float what your closest people tell you about your performances and how the average citizens feel on the street and their respective houses.

In conclusion, one thing you should remember to observe at all time is that ambition is made of harsher gear. You cannot achieve the goals of your pledge if you will take instructions and advises from opportunists and those who have never succeeded. You will never succeed if you fear taking risk in leadership. To leave a mark, no mountain should be too high to scale or stone too heavy to turn. If you can commit yourself to pay any price to bear any burden, meet any hardship in all decisions you will take, observe and pay whatever it may cost you be it better or worse in the interest of Eastern Lakes’ populations.

I wish you every success with your newly assumed responsibilities.

Yours Sincerely,

Abraham Mou Magok
