SOUTH SUDAN IS NOT A GAME BUT A COUNTRY
By Jannagang Nek Lang, Juba, South Sudan
April 22, 2016 (SSB) —- I am not hopeless, I have never been hopeless but right now, I completely feel hopeless about the way out for us the common citizens who have fallen victims of greed and superstition
I have never been emotional, I have no feelings; in fact, I have no feelings and respect for our living liberators anymore. Who could have thought South Sudan for once would ever be brought to stalemate by the very people who let go of luxurious lives in Khartoum and beyond to liberate the then Southern Sudanese who were treated as “second class citizens” by the strings of Islamic oriented presidents in the former Sudan. They made sacrifices which subsequently led to the birth of this country but they seem to have forgotten that.
We the populace feel rejected, abandoned, and unwanted by the people who made us sectionally worship them. For the first time in a long time, for the first time in my twenty eight years or so of my existence, I wish I was never born. No matter where you are, no matter what tribe you represent, no matter what your name is, no matter what you are made to believe, are you a South Sudanese? This question may sound rhetoric but it is not. It begs for answers from all of us especially the less privileged.
Listen! South Sudan leaders in their hierarchy whether in the government, Io, former detainees or other political parties, are ignorant, negligent, and incompetent with regard to the discharge of their duties and obligations. These leaders have a high affinity for corruption and greed for power. They are highly putrid. You know this already but what you don’t know is these criminals deteriorated this nation. They have milked this nation to the point that this nation lets out water instead of milk and then they turned to innocent citizens and fixed them against each other on tribal lines. When they differ on a political agendum, they come back to us fully equipped with tribal vocabularies to fix us against each other in order to gain weight politically.
This is something we must team up against as common citizens of this country. We cannot be led by sets of self deluded politicians who don’t give a damn about the suffering of their subjects. They are all sick. If the head is ill, the entire body suffers. We all need to show these thugs where we want to be led or we stop following them for they don’t seem to know where want to go.
Leadership is the power house. It is the engine room. You lead, we follow. You fall, we fall. You stand, we stand. South Sudanese have endured unfathomable pain, anguish and despair. We have fervently lived through hardship and excruciating suffering.
We all have been lied to and deceived that we all have become cynical. Everything they tell us in the media is nothing but lies. Total gibberish. They are holding us hostage over their self gains. They have polarized the politics of what looked a promising nation when it was incepted in July 2011. We do not trust each other as South Sudanese no more.
Again in their order of hierarchy, they have demonstrated to be buffoons, warthogs, and criminals not worthy of an iota of trust. They always sing a meaningful yet futile one million point agenda. They go to bed having assured the citizens of having reached a consensus only to wake up with different set of demands altogether. We have lived through all that. We know they can never compromise for the sake of the nation and the suffering people for to them, is a game. We are unarguably are their pawns. Since they have made us cynical, politically cynical and impatient, it is unwise of them to expect patience and trust from us. What they need to do now is act fast and come to an understanding. They should act as quickly as possible. God’s speed. We the common wanainchi are tired of listening to promises come excuses. We are completely tired.
Before they thought of wielding the mantle of leadership, they ought to weigh the state and condition of this nation and study it to the end point of making swift and sincere compromise. To make it better than it was not to make excuses and cross-finger pointing. Leadership is a responsibility which I am sure none of our leaders is coerced into.
If you can’t put your differences behind you and safe the nation, come take your places amongst us and leave the politics of South Sudan to people with heavy convictions on their prowess to serve the national interest. People who can take responsibilities and not blame or make excuses. This current crop of leaders and the wannabes don’t understand the meaning of true leadership but understand the meaning of greed for power and corruption. Of course, what they are chiefly known for.
Let no man claim ignorance as an excuse. This is a country not a game of chess!
