May 10, 2016 (SSB)  —–  I would tell President Kiir that; these killers called unknown gunmen and cattle raiders have provided him an opportunity. An opportunity, to re-write the narrative of his intentions, calm secessionist cravings, secure increased peace for and greater stability in South Sudan. An opportunity to consolidate his presidency and save South Sudan from herself.

I would advise the President, using back channels, reaches out to, the formal or informal leaders of the of the so call herdsmen, as a father figure of the nation, imploring them, asking, demanding, the violence and aggression stop. Tell them, in a manner of their own speaking, vengeance or not, enough blood has been spilled.

I would urge him, to speak to the nation from there, as an angry president. And finish with a promise to those who perpetrated these killings, even in his local dialect. Let them know; the justice of South Sudan, will be swift and terrible, to all her enemies, South Sudanese or not.

Then, I would advise, he tasks his military council. Have the Directorate of Military Intelligence geolocate the particular band of roving killer cattle raiders and unknown gunmen, who attacked and kill people every time. Then have his generals, muster the best killers in the South Sudan army. Put them on helicopters, track the killers down, and mete out to them the same measure of brutality they meted out across the nation.

Doing this to his own country, to his own people, would earn him the fear necessary to stave off further aggressive dissent, nationwide. For all evil men, who would bear guns or machetes against South Sudan and South Sudanese, would think twice. Whether it be another band of angry unknown gunmen or cattle raiders thinking murder, the fear will be universal. Only then, will people be willing to talk more, listen better and shoot less.

This would be my counsel. If I had the President’s ear.
