The Misbegotten Town
By Ayuen Kelei, Nairobi, Kenya
–
In the mortal town of Inu,
the living don’t count, rather
the dead, so festoon them!
for their burden up on us
Gone is the responsibility.
–
In the mortal town of Inu,
What we see is what we know
And probably not all,
when the walls fall.
Today is peace, tomorrow is pus
For we are infested with worms and wars
–
In the mortal town of Inu,
bugger all leaders are immortal,
they kill for gain, fickle and relish in retrospect, for robbing the fountain in the broad daylight.
–
In the mortal town of Inu,
wrangle and rage conquers,
Obscuring a glimpse of hope, a bright future of predetermined destiny of freedom and justice,
The core values of the Inu Society.
–
In the misbegotten town of Inu,
One man is charged with salvation of the Inu people, but must crack a hazel nut with his teeth to recover his lost brains and save the town.
